 Sophia Abraham's Life and Legacy

Sophia Abraham was born to her late mother Mrs Meheret and late father Mr Abraham on April 24, 1955 in Asmara.

Because Sophia's mother passed away when she was young, she moved to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to live with her aunts Mrs Abeba and Mrs Behagu at the age of seven. She grew up among many cousins, sisters and brothers. As a young child Sophia was fun-loving and often enjoyed pulling youthful pranks. She was one of the liveliest of the bunch.

Sophia completed her primary and secondary education at Lycee Gebre Mariam and Ethiopia Andenet School. Shortly after graduating from highschool she moved to Paris, France. And after that had the opportunity to live in England, Nigeria, and Belgium. Finally, Sophia moved to the United States and built her home and career in Northern Virginia.

Sophia was a devoted aunt to her nieces and nephews. She showered them with unconditional love and participated in raising them as a second mother, instilling in them the values of putting God first, hard work, education and being responsible citizens. Sophia was known by close friends and family as loving, caring, and honest person. She was never tired to help those in need.

Sophia was a hard worker who believed in continuously improving herself. While still working full time and supporting herself and family, she earned an Associate Degree in Business Management and General Studies from Northern Virginia Community College in 1997. She then earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 1998 and a Master of Science in Information Systems in 2000 from Strayer University in Alexandria VA. Sophia worked for the United States Department of State, Foreign Service Institute until she fell ill and passed away on March 10, 2011.
