This memorial website was created in memory of our loved one, Specialist Etienne Jules Murphy, 22 years old , born on May 17, 1995 and passed away on May 26, 2017. We will remember him forever. He is severely missed and needed.

When Etienne was a little boy, at three years old, he loved working with his father. Everything he saw his his dad do, that, he also did. One day Etienne and his two brothers went to work with his dad. When they all got home, Etienne noticed that his dad paid his brothers but not him. The next time that they were all preparing to go to work with dad, Etienne said he didn't want to go, his dad asked why and he said because you paid my brothers but didn't pay me the last time I worked with you. At three, he understood the concept of standing up for what he believed in.
As a little boy Etienne loved playing with toy soldiers. He had every single one that was sold in the store! I didn't really pay attention to how much he really liked them. Upon entering high school, he enrolled in the ROTC program and excelled in everything that he did. He was a team leader and always gave his best and demanded it of his fellow classmates. They won numerous competitions which fueled his desire to enlist in the army.
At the age of seventeen Etienne brought home a consent form for me to sign for him to enlist, I pleaded with him to please not enlist, but I knew that he was adamant about doing itm and if I didn't sign it, he would just do it once he turned eighteen so with a heavy heart, I signed it. The smile on his face told me I had done the right thing, I had to support him, even though I had reservations.
After graduating from high school in 2013, Etienne entered the Army at Fort Benning, GA where he completed One Station Unit Training (OSUT) as an Infantryman. He was then assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum, New York. After his initial service at Fort Drum, he desired a greater challenge, so he volunteered for service with the Army's elite 75th Ranger Regiment in October 2015.
He attended the Army's Basic Airborne Course and the rigorous Ranger Assessment and Selection Program (RASP) at Fort Benning, GA. Upon graduation, he earned the title of "Army Ranger" and was assigned to Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah GA, where he served as an Anti-Tank Gunner.
I visited Etienne in Savannah a few days before he left for Savannah and as I was leaving to return home I hugged him and begged him not to go. While prying my hands from around his neck he said with his beautiful smile, "I'll be back mom."
Etienne was deployed to Syria a few days later, he was only there for five days and I got the worst news I had gotten in all of my life, "your son was in a vehicle rollover and didn't make it."
The life that I once knew became a distant memory that I would never know again. My husband told me that Etienne didn't tell me the truth about what he would be doing in Syria because he didn't want me to worry. He said Etienne was so excited about going.
That's my baby boy, always looking out for others. I miss him more than I could ever explain in a million years. This is the worst thing a parent could ever go through. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't beg God to please give me my son. I will never get over this, so before I die, which I have pleaded with God to please let happen to me, I have decided that until I do take my last breath, I must do my best to make sure that he is never forgotten.
So please remember my son, Specialist Etienne J Murphy. He was thinking about all of you when he was in Syria. He's the best. I'm so proud of him.
