I know it's been some time since the passing of this poor kitten. But let it be known that this gracious stranger of a kitten has touched so many hearts and souls. From one animal lover to all, it is never easy to let go any 4 legged family member and coming from experience having to let our dog go was the hardest decision I had to make and having my entire family pissed at me for doing so hurt....hurt alot. But now they understand. As animal lovers we seem to just have the sense of knowing when our animals have had enough and know they will definitely see us again on that rainbow bridge never to be separated again. So to sprout you are with all my animal friends and trust me their are alot there but we will see you again....you can count on that.

PLEASE take a moment to read and SHARE this post... we desperately need your help! Last night we received an urgent plea to help this kitten who was recently set on fire. He is in intensive care where he is heavily sedated and starting what will be a very long road to recovery. He is eating and showing a strong will to live (or else we would have humanely and lovingly let him go immediately), but his needs are unbelievably extensive. The tissue on his front legs is so badly damaged that both may need to be removed, and the burns to his underbelly and genitals are so severe that gender can not accurately be determined (although we're calling him a boy for now). He will remain sedated and on pain medications with 24 hour care until he is strong enough to start the recovery process.

We as on organization have found ourselves in an extremely difficult and stressful position. Donations are at an all-time low during the spring and summer months, yet our intake of cats and dogs is at an all-time high. We are helping more animals than ever before on less and less funding - and we simply can't sustain like this.

Please - if you are in a position to make a donation of any size, we beg of you to consider making it now. We have a very costly journey ahead of us both with this kitten and as a rescue organization. We receive no financial support of any kind outside of the generosity of people like you. I am eternally grateful for anything you can give and promise to keep you updated on our kitten's status in the upcoming hours/days.

The past few days have been such a whirlwind here at the shelter, but we want you all to know that we've received all of your messages and words of support and are so grateful to have such an amazing community of animal lovers rally around us.

As of this morning, Sprout is still alive and fighting, but in critical condition. We transferred him to a veterinary clinic that has extensive experience with burn victims and he is in their ICU. Two of our biggest challenges right now are healing him from the inside out and helping him work through the neurological issues he is experiencing (most likely from a stroke that occurred during the incident.) We need to stabilize his internals before we can start the healing of his externals. He remains in great spirits with a hearty appetite and no pain, so we will continue this journey with him as long as he continues to want to fight.

We received the most gracious offer to help from a couple who has gone down the arduous path and worked miracles with cats suffering from extensive burn and neurological traumas. They have offered their time, experience and expertise to work with Sprout when he is ready to be transferred into a home environment and start daily therapy. We feel so blessed and fortunate that we have this opportunity for him and are grateful to be in a position to provide him with the best care humanly possible.

This process will be a long one for him, but I promise I will keep everyone updated as we see progress happening. We are working on adding his story to our Website for those who don't have access to Facebook.

To everyone who has offered their well-wishes, good thoughts, and donations, not only to Sprout, but to Felines & Canines as a whole, THANK YOU. It never ceases to amaze me that when times get hard, we have the most incredible supporters who rally around us and inspire us to keep pushing forward. Thank you for making Felines & Canines the awesome little shelter that it is.

Donations can be made here: https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/FelinesAndCanines

Der F&C Family,

It is with great sadness that I am writing to tell you that Sprout passed away early this morning. His little body could not fight the trauma anymore. I know that some people disagreed with my decision to try to help him overcome his injuries, but what was most important here is that he knew love and peace in his final days, not pain and abuse.

I am incredibly grateful to all of you who gave a dollar, a healing thought or prayer. We wanted for him so badly to ...

I know this is a late night post, but I wanted to share a Sprout update with all of you. Today was a very difficult day for him. He seems to have lost a bit of his fight to live and our vet described his condition as "beyond critical." He is receiving 24 hour a day medical care (we are still employing a technician to stay at the hospital overnight with him) from some of the most compassionate and experienced veterinarians we've ever worked with, but his body has to want to thrive. We have promised him we will give him everything in the world to help him survive, but if he doesn't want to go on anymore, we will not force him to. Beyond world-class medical care, he is receiving copious amounts of love, comfort and compassion from an amazing team of people.

These next few days are critical for Sprout. Please continue to send good thoughts for him... we are on pins and needles just hoping his tiny body can pull through this.

Peace and love,
Abby

I'm going to step away from Facebook today as I need some time to breathe.
