The Fence Man’s Prayer: God bless me this day, as I go about nailing fences. That I may not nail my hands to the fence. May I set each post as straight as the soldiers that stood guard around the cross. And when the sun beats down on me, I will think of the River Jordan. That I will set every section side by side, as the children of Israel stood side by side, when they faced the Palestines. Please, Lord, don’t let me loose site and become tangled in the strands of barbwire. Let my vision be clear, so that I may see the valley of the future. Yea: I may walk in the valley and the shadow of the tension bands, rail ends, barbwire arms and dome caps, I will not fear that snake hiding in the tall grass, nor the barking dog. May my fence stand as strong as your undying love for me. Amen
