The White Tail - a poem by Stan

May 3, 2021
In High School, Stan was asked to write a poem. He decided to write about the White Tail Deer. Here is the poem as Stan wrote it.

Have you seen the great hunters,
The big and the small,
Walking the woods
of New Hampshire this fall?

They scour the land
In search of the deer,
In search of the White Tail
Who get scarcer each year.

Maybe you'll get one
And, then, maybe not;
And, you should have seen
The one I almost shot!

Now gather round the fire,
The young and the old,
And you'll never tire
Of the deer stories told.

Oh, the graceful White Tail,
How high is his head!
Sometimes it's sad
To see him so dead.

But part of the story
Is still untold,
How so many are defeated
By starvation, the wind, and the cold.
