ForeverMissed

On Sunday, September 3, 2017 friends and family are invited to gather at Gator’s Café and Saloon, 12754 Kingfish Dr., Treasure Island, FL 33706 from 2:00pm to 5:00pm to celebrate the life of Steve Stegeman.  This was a favorite spot for Steve, who often went there with friends to enjoy a beer and watch the beautiful gulf sunsets that he so loved.  Later that evening, his family will be on a boat, heading out into the bay, to scatter his ashes at sunset, which was his wish.

I have included below the lyrics to a Luke Bryan song that makes me think of Steve every time I hear it, and is especially apropos.

We hope that you can join us, but if you can’t, watch the sunset wherever you are and take a moment to think of Steve.  Bonus points if you raise a cold Bud Light in his honor!

It would be great if you would then post photos of the sunset where you are on September 3 on this website.

"Drink A Beer"

When I got the news today
I didn't know what to say.
So I just hung up the phone.

I took a walk to clear my head,
This is where the walking led
Can't believe you're really gone
Don't feel like going home

So I'm gonna sit right here
On the edge of this pier
Watch the sunset disappear
And drink a beer

Funny how the good ones go
Too soon, but the good Lord knows
The reasons why, I guess

Sometimes the greater plan
Is kinda hard to understand
Right now it don't make sense
I can't make it all make sense

So I'm gonna sit right here
On the edge of this pier
Watch the sunset disappear
And drink a beer

So long my friend
Until we meet again
I'll remember you
And all the times that we used to...

... sit right here on the edge of this pier
And watch the sunset disappear
And drink a beer
Drink a beer,
Drink a beer.
Yeah

I knew Steve from our consulting days at NCGroup. The time was long ago, but the memories are still near. Truly sorry for the loss...

I knew Steve as a neighbor, first as the parent of my sisters friend, and later as someone I babysat for. Steve was a great man, and he will surely be missed by all who knew him.

To the Stegeman sisters, this is a lovely page and tribute to "Stevie". This is who he was to me, my first childhood crush and summer sweetheart. Memories take me back to LFC diving and swimming and stealing tiny kisses when coach (mom) wasn't looking! May Steve's legacy live in your hearts forever and may he rest in peace while continuing to be in your midst with every gorgeous sunset from this day forward. Blessing and love - Diane (Allen) Kramer

Whenever Steve’s name is mentioned, my mind always jumps a particular memory I have of him. While I’ve seen him since then, this early memory fully encompasses my view of Uncle Steve to this day.

It was years ago at a family reunion on the beaches of Florida. I hadn’t seen Steve in several years, and at eight years old this meant he might as well have been a complete stranger to me. Yet I vividly remember being drawn to him almost as I would have been drawn to a cool older cousin.

The sun was almost down, and my brother Jeremy and I had somehow managed to convince Steve to take us fishing out on the beach. I’ll never know for sure what was going through his mind as he agreed come out with us, but in my mind he was just as excited as I was. I am 100% sure that the most I caught that night was a piece of driftwood, but that didn’t matter. All that mattered was that we were hanging out with cool Uncle Steve.

While I don’t remember exactly how the night unfolded, I’ll never forget how genuinely interested he seemed to be in making the people around him happy.

He was an awesome person, and this memory will never be forgotten.

My love and thoughts go out to the rest of the family and to the many others that were fortunate enough to have him in their lives throughout his years.
