Stephan's Obituary

Stephanus Wilhelm Els, 1972 - 2016

April 19, 2016

‘Stephan’ as he was called was born on November 11th, 1972.  On April 10th, 2016 our beloved husband, son, brother, uncle, cousin, friend and colleague passed to Eternal Life in heaven.  He departed quickly and peacefully while vacationing with his family at a game reserve near Brits, South Africa.  He was surrounded by his family when he gently took God’s hand and walked with him to heaven.

Stephan was preceded in death by his father, Hannes Els.  He is survived by his mother, Juffie, his wife Jocelyn and his two young sons Stephan Louis and Hannes.  He is also survived by his siblings: Johan (Luzette), Pieter (Hanneke), Heste (Vic) Botha, Hannes (Leonie) and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.

Stephan graduated from Potchefstroom Gimnasium and received a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Northwest University in Potchefstroom.  Upon receiving his degree, Stephan followed his dream to work in the field of technology.  His ambitions took him to England, Pietermaritzburg, Cape Town and eventually to the United States; it was his lifelong dream to live and work there, in the place of technological advancement.  While there, he met the love of his life, Jocelyn Desmond.  They were married May 8th, 2004 and were blessed with two beautiful boys Stephan Louis and Hannes.  As a family, they enjoyed the outdoors together where he taught them how to surf the ocean, travel the seas and ride the wind.  He was a perpetual adventurer with passions for windsurfing, paragliding, mountain biking, surfing and golfing.  He was also a wonderful storyteller; he had a treasure trove of anecdotes, lessons and jokes that he learned throughout his full life.

Stephan was his family’s rock of strength and wisdom.  Jocelyn, Stephan Louis and Hannes were the pinnacle of his life and his love for them was eternal.  He will be truly and utterly missed.

Proverbs 19:21 ‘Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.’
