Stephen, Our Friend

Stephen, you are sorely missed. You and I spoke on at least a weekly basis for 60 years and now nightly.

I remember us at Main Street School, then Carrie P. Weber Junior High, the Paul D. Schreiber High School. We were the Delta boys and put on the best parties.

College came with you off to Florida Southern and me off to UNC. We both ended up back north with you in Fort Lee and me in Port Washington, commuting across the bridges, riding George's Bertram around the rivers and just basically having a good time.

Eventually we all got married, you, me, Rich, Mike, Doug, Rick, and Terry and settled down for the most part but kept up the party weekends.

After 40+ years of productive time we all retired to our different parts of the country to settle down. Mike passed first, then Rick, then you: the rest of us still going.

Helen and I talk of you often and you are in my prayers constantly, I miss you man...

A wonderful brother-in-law!

I met Steve when I was 15 and dating his younger brother Rick, who I later married. Steve was like a brother to me. He was the "rock" of their 3 man family growing up. He looked after Rick and took care of his own father. Although he suffered setbacks in his life he was always cheerful and had  a big smile with dimples! Some of my favorite memories of Steve are - he taught me to drive a stick shift car at 16 in his cool MG Midget. He was a great cook and made the best spaghetti, bay scallops, and many other dishes. When we all got together we always laughed a lot! We all went boating a lot in Long Island Sound  in his father's big boats and partied hard. He wore his feelings on his sleeve and was a sentimental guy. He loved his children dearly, as well as his father and brother. Even after we both became divorced we kept in touch because we still felt like "family." I never had the pleasure of meeting Diana, who I know he loved dearly and who cared for him until the end. My life is the better for knowing Steve. He helped teach me that adversity and circumstances can't keep you down. I am grateful to have many fond memories of Steve. I will miss him dearly!
