Born in Marksville, La, Steven H. DeMars, Sr. passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at the age of 61 with his wife and son by his side.  He was a long term resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana having also lived in Bakersfield, California from 1988 - 1996.  At the time of his passing, Steve made his home in Prairieville, La.  He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years Desiree’; son Steven, Jr; brother Craig; and nephew Paul.  Steve was preceded in death by his parents Ellis and Mildred DeMars. 

Steve was a wonderful husband as well as a proud and amazing father. He touched the lives of his family and friends through his encouraging words, willingness to help others, and wisdom born from years of a rich and diverse working life. He was a man who shared honest advice, gave his time generously, and helped others see opportunities when they thought there were none.  Through his humor, he could provide an enlightening perspective on any given situation.

Steve started working at age 11 as a shoe-shine boy and retired at age 59 as an instrumentation designer with a wealth of working experience in-between.  In retirement, he pursued his love of wood and metal working.  A believer in the power of education, Steve’s dedication to learning and acquiring new skills served as a constant source of encouragement for his family.
