His Life
December 6, 2012

Steve, age 72, passed December 2, 2012 after a four-year battle with cancer.

Steve was born on July 20, 1940 in Omaha, Nebraska to his loving parents, the late Harold and Gertrude James.   He was the youngest of three children.  While still young, Steve and his family moved to Seattle where he attended Shoreline High School, class of '1958’.  He continued his education at the University of Washington and received his degree from Seattle University.  After a long successful career, he retired from Willis Corroon as V. P. of Alaska Surety Bonding.

Once retired, Steve and Barb spent time living in Alaska and Lake Tahoe before returning to Washington State.  Both of these destinations allowed him to really enjoy his passions outdoors.  In particular, golf and skiing for which he loved sharing with family and friends.  Flying was also something he took a lot of pleasure in doing.  He and his family experienced many adventures on trips in his plane.  While at home, Steve spent many hours restoring his 1961 Porshe 356.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Harold & Gertrude James and first wife, Patricia Fiorito.

Steve is survived and forever remembered by his loving family - wife of 42 years, Barbara; son, Chris (Betsy) James, and their 3 sons, Cameron, Colin & Carson; daughter, Michele (John) Collins, and their 2 sons, Austen & Casey; sister, Mary Lou (Spence) Higley and brother, John James, and many nieces and nephews.

We will miss Steve's warm smile and witty sense of humor.   His optimism and light-hearted view of life challenged all of us to keep things in perspective and not to sweat the small stuff.  We will continue to always be inspired by his can-do attitude and hold him in our hearts forever.

Special thanks to Dr. Ron Reimer and staff, Harrison Hospital, Stafford at Ridgemont and the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance.
