Train Trip to Nowhere...

September 23, 2016

Yes, after I'd written the story, I thought I remembered the Postal car. Here you go...

Yes, Cindy, that was in Monticello, IL.  That was a fun ride.  Just a long ride up and down the tracks on an old train.  I loved the old mail car that was still set up as it was when the mail was worked there and handed off from the train car.  Thanks for the pictures.

Train Trip to Nowhere...

Deb, do you remember this train ride? Maybe you can help me remember where it was. It consisted of 4 or 5 cars. The inside was wood and we could walk back and forth, through the cars...but, the craziest thing I remember was that it went down a track, about a mile or so and back! It was fun just being together.

Whose got the best hand...or foot?

I recall a few days before Michelle and I moved to California...Deb, Steve, Ryan, Aaron, Kim and Cryste all gathered for a visit at Mom's in Mansfield. Remember the "metal house"? You could just put magnets, directly on the walls! A little strange but fun times. Michelle and Cryste wanted to play cards, so Steve and I both joined them. We sat on the floor, in a circle. I think we were playing "war". Anyway, you end up holding a lot of cards, in that game! Michelle moved over, to sit in my lap but I could see her cards and had a hard time holding mine. So, I decided to hold some of my cards, in my toes. Most of our family, had always picked things up, with our toes...so, why not cards!? The girls tried to use their toes too and we were all laughing hysterically! But, the ultimate was when Steve decided to do the same thing! Totally unexpected. I've attached a picture. Hope it helps you feel like you were in the middle of the fun.

A trip out West...continued

September 21, 2016

It really was..."so, we loaded up the truck and we moved to Beverly...Hills, that is" though it was actually about 50 miles south of Beverly Hills.
I had to sell or give away most of my large furniture and appliances but everything else was packed into my 1986 Chev Sprint, loaded onto Dad's stock car trailer and pulled by Steve's red pick up truck!
Steve, my friend Bob, a 7-year old Michelle and myself, rode in the cab of the pick up (which probably wouldn't be legal today). As we pulled away from Bob's house, I choked back the tears as I saw them welling up in Dad's eyes.
We pulled out of Olney, by way of Rt 50E, about noon, on a Friday. Steve drove most of the way because he wanted to but let Bob drive some, just enough to catnap. We stopped only for gas, bathroom breaks and two "sit down" meals (mostly to stretch our legs).
Somewhere in New Mexico, I asked if I could drive, just to see if I could. Steve agreed and I drove for about an hour. He was pretty patient with his directions but after a few miles, he asked why I was going so slow. I told them to look behind us! I don't know what the elevation was but it was steep! Probably wasn't the best place to "try" to drive, pulling a trailer up a very steep hill, but it was definitely an experience I'll never forget.
We arrived at our destination in California about 9:am on Monday morning (almost 3 full days later). Bob and Steve both stayed a couple of nights before Bob took a plane home and Steve pulled Dad's empty trailer back to Illinois, by way of Texas, to visit family, on his way home.
I'm so very thankful that he touched our lives and for this wonderful memory. You'll be greatly missed by all of us who crossed your path.
Love, Cindy
I've attached a photo of two, tired guys!
