Steven Delbert Erickson, age 67, died peacefully on June 22, 2016 after a long battle with his health. Steve is survived by his sisters Judy (of Juneau) and Kathy (of Dyea), his brother Mike (of Juneau), along with many other loved ones including nieces and nephews as well as his extended family from his late-wife, Jean Jenkins (of Fairbanks). Steve is preceded in death by his parents Delbert “Pete” and Irene Erickson, his sister, Sue Hosford and his wife, Jean.
Born in Auburn, Washington to Pete and Irene, Steve attended Auburn schools. From a very young age, his passion for the outdoors was evident. He was both an avid hunter and enthusiastic fisherman throughout his life.
In the mid-60’s, Steve’s family moved to Alaska aboard the M/V Irene E in search for “more elbow room”. They settled in Petersburg where he and his family fished commercially, started a construction company and successfully ran Irene’s Restaurant.
Shortly after moving to Alaska, Steve was called and served proudly in the United States Army and operated as a gunner during the Vietnam War where he was wounded in action. Steve received a Purple Heart as well as a combat infantryman badge for his sacrifices.
One of his many notable triumphs was Steve’s determination to complete his education and receive a diploma after being discharged from the Army.
Steve held jobs with Alaska Airlines and the Alaska Marine Highway, while often serving as a deckhand on fishing boats. Steve retired out of the Operating Engineers as a heavy equipment operator after years of building roads all across Alaska. In the mid 80’s Steve met and fell in love with Jean Jenkins. Together they lived in Fairbanks until Jean’s untimely passing in 2001.
Steve relocated back to Southeast Alaska, and took residence in Juneau to be close to his mom and siblings.
Steve was a loving son, brother and uncle and was a genuine friend to so many. He will be missed dearly.
A celebration of Steve’s life will take place at the residence of his niece, Desi Tucker in Renton on Sunday, June 26th. Please call 425-777-0055 for more information.
The family would like to thank all of the caregivers for their dedication to Steve during the past few months. Your support provided him much comfort and happiness. Thank you.

To my uncle Steve,
I have lots of memories of you but the most that sticks in my head are those silver coins you gave to all us kids. I remember you always teasing me. One time me and you were sharing some crab at grandma's house in Petersburg and I loved that butter. I asked you what kind it was and you said " I can't believe it's not butte"r. That took me 20yrs to find out what the heck you were talking about haha. I'm thankful for all your wisdom you gave me. It was a blessing to have you as family. Much love uncle Steve may you rest in peace.
