I met Steve when I was a small child tagging along to a reenactment with my dad. From that day on, both he and George were always great to hang around whenever I got the opportunity to attend another event. I would just sit and listen to the stories that they had to tell for hours. Fast forward 20+ years, I had the pleasure of taking part in a reenactment and met up with Steve and George. They took me in like I was one of the guys that had been hanging out with them and having "grown up" conversations forever. It was great to see the look on Steve's face when he saw me and couldn't believe how much I had grown up! I can honestly say that just being around Steve and George set a positive example for me as a young man. Steve always made me feel that if I had anything to talk about or a question to ask about anything, that he would do his best to answer me completely and honestly. He may not have gotten the "what's life about" questions from me, but he never made me feel like I was anything other than important to the group. I remember his passion for his hobbies and the caring in his heart. Steve, you made me feel like a son and also a brother. You will be missed greatly and I look forward to the day that we can meet again!

The First Time I met Steve

September 5, 2013

The first time I met Steve was at an event in Southern MA. I couldn't find the place; roadside construction had detoured traffic around the directions to the event I had. It had taken me two hours to get near the event, and then I drove around for another hour before I found the place.

When I arrived I was not a happy camper and a bit frantic, as the action had started and the battle was somewhere off in the woods. But as I parked the car I saw Steve. He waved at me and smiled. That wave and smile took all my anger away. He came up and introduced himself, pointed me to registration, stood by as I did the paperwork, and then walked me to the road that led to the battle.

I was impressed by his calm, and willingness to help. By the time I reached the scene of the battle, which wasn't long, I was relaxed and ready to have fun. That was the first occassion that he had the effect on me, but not the last. I will remember his smile at many events, and will always picture him that way in my mind.
