Boots

These here boots; they’re Veterans, and they’re “Proud to be a Veteran”, because, you see, these here boots, they’ve been many places.  If they could only talk, just think of the stories they could tell you.  After all, they’ve been half way around the world and back, many times.  They’ve been to places you can’t even find on a map, places you’ve never seen, or ever care to see.  These here boots, they’ve seen some good days, and some not so good days.  They’ve been walked on, kicked, beat up,  thrown out, shot at, shot up, blown up, forgot about, lost, some even simply replaced, as if they were disposable.  Now “these here boots”, these have made it back, here, here back to American soil.  Some of them are cleaned up, some not, some unable to be cleaned up, some unable to be fixed, some simply thrown away, some hiding in the closet; feeling worthless, useless, ashamed of being seen, or labeled.   What I do know, is none of these boots, are in any way, the same as the day they left.   They’re different; they’ve changed, changed forever.   What I also want you to know, is, that each of these boots, were attached to those humans, and those humans received the same treatment as these here boots.   They’ve been kicked, shot at, shot up, blown up, lost, or replaced.  These groups of humans, who have worn these here boots, have since been labeled, labeled by you, as “Veterans”.   Yes, these Veterans, they are the ones that fought for you, so you can enjoy some quality of life, the freedoms you have today, today and every day.  I ask you, to simply take a moment, today, and every day, to thank them, for the price they’ve paid, for you.  Happy Veterans Day to you, and remember, take good care of your boots, for everything they have done for you.
