I was so looking forward to our high school reunion last year and then it was postponed until this June. No problem Steve, I'll see you in June 2021 but now that is not going to happen....I feel cheated because we would have had a 100 belly laughs with Dave and "Frank" reliving our time together in high school and beyond.
We probably should have moved into your house in Thiensville we were there so much. The endless bumper pool games, the "turtlehead" calls at 1:00 AM, would you stop playing those Creedance and Quicksilver albums, midnight runs to Suburpia, racing down to Sears after school, and the verbal jousting with Frank and Gerry about using the infamous GTO. Thanks to you and your family for all of those teenage memories. Gods blessings and strength to Terri and your children and I will hopefully see you at a more important reunion in the future.

I've known Steve since high school. Steve, my brother Scott Plouff and Dave Oser were always together. It had been many years until I heard Steve and Terri had lost a daughter the same time my and I lost a son. We reconnected and conversed over Facebook. Also had another personal connection via Kilwins. One of our nieces and her husband (and his father) own a Kilwins franchise. Small world. We will all miss you Steve. Our hearts go out to you Terri and all of your family.

I was blessed to work with Steve twice during our Sears careers. Once in Mason City, IA & again in the Dealer Store organization. Steve was a true leader in creating the Dealer Store organization from scratch. He had the innate ability to make those around him better at their jobs, as well as better persons. If there was a Sears Hall of Fame, Steve would be in it. I love the pictures of Steve with Terri, his kids, & his grandkids. I think that is where he was in his glory. He relished that part of this life. God bless his family!

Just got this sad news...
I was fortunate to have had Steve as a mentor and friend over many years. Steve's intense work ethic was unparalleled while still being compassionate, supportive and relatable to all. When you were talking with Steve you knew you had his full attention and your best interests at heart. I am a better person for knowing him and being able to call him a friend. Why God needed Steve so early is still unknown, but he has selected the right man for the job. Terri, our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

I planned on writing sooner, but, I really did not have words. Steve was one of my best friends. Hard to lose those. Gonna miss our calls and chats...gonna miss him. He was a model for management, appreciated his people and could get after you if you had it coming. He enriched soo many lives ... generous to a fault...but for all the right reasons. Don't know why the Lord took him so soon, but heaven just gained an awesome guy. Nancy and my condolences to the entire family.

Dear Terri and family,

Von guten Mächten wunderbar geborgen
Erwarten wir getrost, was kommen mag.
Erwarten wir getrost, was kommen mag.
Gott ist bei uns am Abend und am Morgen
Und ganz gewiss an jedem neuen Tag.
Wenn sich die Stille nun tief um uns breitet
So lass uns hören jenen vollen Klang
Der Welt, die unsichtbar sich um uns weitet
All deiner Kinder hohen Lobgesang.
-Dietrich Bonhoeffer-

Thinking about you and your family.

From reading all the tributes, it’s clear that my wife Patty and my kids Ian & Stephanie all got the same memorable treatment from Steve that everyone else received - never ending kindness, generosity, and fun. The most amazing thing to me is how effortless he made it look. A truly magical person.

I had the additional bonus of being a teammate of Steve’s for 17 years. 300+ games and all the camaraderie, laughter, and friendship that started with the pre-game and ended at Rookies for food and near constant story-telling and laughter. We won a few games too. The most memorable night? It was in 2007 when on a Thursday (after a full day of work on a hot August night) that Steve pitched all 4 pressure-packed games to lead us to a tournament championship. And for all the years this story has been retold amongst the team, Steve never let it be forgotten who our savior was - it was Terri, our only fan that night, who left during game 3 when it looked like we were in good shape to advance. She returned prior to Game 4 with Gatorade and Snickers bars to energize us for the final. It worked perfectly and after 4+ hours of fun, we celebrated like kids.

Steve has been the compass of the Rookies team for roughly 20 years. His leadership and influence can’t be replaced and will forever be missed.

Steve was in constant motion and a man with a great talent for getting things done. He could strike up a conversation with anyone about anything. And those are just a few of the many things I admired about Steve. He and I didn't agree on everything -- especially his fondness for the Yankees -- but our back and forth was always good-natured and respectful. I'm better off for having been a friend of Steve and I will miss him greatly.

I am so incredibly saddened by the sudden loss of Mr. Titus. As a kid, Amie was my everything. Babysitter & best friend. After she passed away, both Mr. Titus and Mrs. Titus remained prominent in my life. From graduation parties, to my wedding & most recently, my first baby shower. Mr. Titus was always kind, loving, warm and funny. I can't put into words how sad this makes me and how sad I feel for Teri and the rest of their incredible family. I wish we could be at the service today, but we are watching from home. We send so much love and so many hugs to the entire Titus family. Love, Courtney, Alex & Beckham

It was so unexpected to hear of uncle Steve’s passing. So sudden. My heart goes out to Steve’s family and everyone close to him. Steve was such an uplifting and positive person. He was always encouraging and building me up. I will forever remember going to a Yankees/Twins game and how much fun we had. I was hoping for extra innings so that I could keep talking baseball. I will miss phone calls with Steve and hearing about his take on the most recent Yankee roster moves and other happenings in the MLB.

It came as a shock when we learnt the pass of Steve on Sunday. He and Terri were here in Texas just a few weeks ago. Together we celebrated Ty’s 6th birthday by going to the playground of Gary Park, having lunch at Georgetown, opening gifts and enjoying the delicious chocolate cake. Jeff and Melissa have five children. While they are growing up, Steve and I have spent numerous times at their birthday parties, also vacationing holidays and family re-unions.
We first met Steve at Taylor University where Jeff and Melissa went to school. I was impressed with his carefulness in packing Melissa’s master pieces of arts for home. We were amazed to find his huge collection of Craftsman tools. Steve was very patient to explain the purpose and even demonstrate the use of each tool to me. He was indeed a brilliant teacher. He was a big fan of New York Yankees. I enjoyed listening to his statistics of player like Wang Chien-Min, height, weight, innings pitched, batting average and runs etc. He was like an encyclopedia of Yankees.
In 2011, Steve, Terri, Jeff, Melissa, Chase and Ami visited Taiwan. Steve was an adventurer who would try anything, oh, maybe except the “stinky tofu”. It was really an enjoyable trip for them.
We are very honored and fortunate to know Steve. In addition to a successful businessman and true friend, he will be missed as a gifted son, respectful brother, loyal husband, loving father and the greatest “papa” of 13.

Steve was simply an epic figure. A Godly man with an incredible spirit of kindness, and so quick to give. Seems he always had a smile on his face.

Steve, I have so many great memories of you. Whether it be in the boat fishing, at the 4th of July parties, Christmas, just sitting and talking for hours, or that time with NIck between the entry doors at that store laughing like crazy. Matt, remember the fish toss in Manitowish Waters? Steve you were always the first one there with advice, an ear, and encouraging words of support. I love you and miss you. You live on in all the great memories. I am a better person for knowing you.

My relationship with Steve started as a “business friendship” but progressed and developed into a personal friendship. Steve was a true relationship person, likable in his demeanor, his attitude and his humility. Everyone found it easy to like Steve right from the start. That was my experience from the moment we met in the hotel lobby on his first trip to Austin. Steve, Boyd and I shared lunches, dinners and many hours driving the Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado and Nebraska markets on behalf of Kilwins. Steve was a man with a rare and attractive quality to get real about the ups and downs of life. Steve shared the details of his personal testimony, his love for his wife Terri and his family. He also was able to confront the pain of the tragic loss of his daughter Amie and talk about how God turned the deep pain of that loss into a ministry to others. Steve made himself available to other parents who were struggling to handle the loss of a child. Most of the parents he wrote to or spoke to he didn’t know but were referred to him from people who found out about his willingness to put aside his grief to minister to others. He once told me that the pain of losing a child is always there but that his relationship with God gives him strength and allows him to confront his personal pain and give himself to others. Steve told me that he believed that God was using the tragedy of his loss to bring healing and hope to others. He once told me that no one could understand the pain of losing a child other than one who had actually experienced that kind of loss. It was from that perspective that he realized and understood how God was using him to show his love to others that were grief stricken and broken. He offered to write a letter to anyone I knew in that situation who needed encouragement and support. His ministry and life illustrated the meaning of Rom. 8:28 and Isa. 61:3. It was an example to me of how God wants to take what was intended for evil and turn it to good and how He wants to turns the ashes of the painful parts of our lives and turn it into beauty.
On a business level, Steve was a joy to work with. He was capable, diligent, persistent and always willing to take a call. Steve was an incredible spokesman for Kilwins. He loved the Kilwins family and was always quick to point out the integrity of the company and how the emphasis was always to keep the franchisee’s best interest in mind. He had many stories to illustrate how the Kilwins corporate team built the business by a sincere desire to make sure that the individual store owners were successful. He would literally light up the room when he was talking about Kilwins and all that the company does to benefit every stakeholder involved, including brokers, landlords, vendors, employees, franchisees, etc. He was proud to be a part of the Kilwins team and was an inspiration to those of us that worked with him on the real estate side. Steve was a great leader, always quick to encourage and acknowledge good work, always keeping the team informed and always making us feel valued. I could go on about Steve’s effectiveness in his role with Kilwins but there many personal stories Steve shared with us, including his love for baseball. Many of you will know that Steve was a walking encyclopedia of baseball knowledge. We once had a carful of brokers driving to look at Kilwins sites. All of us thought up the most obscure questions about baseball and took turns trying to stump him with questions like “who was the winning pitcher in the 1932 World Series”? We spent the better part of an hour quizzing him and didn’t stump him once that I recall. Steve and I talked about the joy of having and loving grandkids. He shared stories and talked about going to games and dance recitals, walking them to school, etc. Steve told me of how he would write his grandkids notes and mail them notes and stickers, etc. He kept his family in mind when he traveled, collecting hotel key cards for his grandson who loved getting them. His stories inspired me to do the same for my grandkids even though we are close enough that I get to see them. Steve told me that the kids loved getting things in the mail which made an impression on me. As a result, I began mailing card and stickers to my grandkids and plan to do that more often.
We will all miss Steve very much and will look forward to seeing him again in heaven. On behalf of the Kilwins broker team, we pray for Terri and family to receive comfort and hope directly from the Father through the Holy Spirit. Let that comfort be like a thick blanket of peace over them in this hour and the coming days and weeks, in Jesus Name, Amen.

Steve Titus was amazing and he meant so much to us. We still can't believe it to be true!

He was always there to cheer us forward for big life moments and lend a helping hand if he could support us in some way. We loved stopping by and catching up with you - hours would pass with rich conversation.

Family was his most prized possession. He just lit up talking about his and ours. I feel incredibly fortunate to have known him the last 14 years, and I hope one day my own family knows a parent's love like the kind Steve has shown us.

To the Titus family, I am so, so very sorry and hope comfort comes in knowing that as a man of faith, Steve is now with his creator. He remains with you always.

We miss you, Steve.

It is with great sadness I heard about Steve's passing. I havent known him long, but he has been crucial in walking me through the franchise process for our new Kilwins store in Georgetown, TX. His passing came as shock to me as I am sure it was to so many others. He was such a wonderful person and I am heartbroken he is not going to be able to be able to bring his grand children to my store. I am sending his wife, Terri, children and grandchildren my heartfelt condolences and prayers.

I have never met a person like Steve before who had an intense work ethic, an absolute love for people especially God,his wife, family and his 13 grandchildren ! Tim the Toolman did not have anything over Steve. He had every Craftsman tool ever made! Steve had an incredible athletic ability and a wealth of knowledge of sports. I will never understand his love for the Yankees but I respect his team choice! Knowing that Steve lived in Milwaukee and attended UW Milwaukee in the early 70’s I posed a question to Steve on my 1st encounter with him in 2000. “ What is the best Sub Sandwich in your opinion?” Without hesitation he replied Suburpia Subs ! That made my day! I worked for a short time for Suburpia in the UWMilwaukee neighboorhood and after talking with Steve our paths had to cross in 1972! Steve you will be Missed!

I first met Steve over 27 years ago while we both worked at the Sears Corporate Office. We immediately struck up a work friendship talking baseball, music and movie trivia (mainly the Yankees and the Beatles). We were still carrying on these conversations (now through Facebook) on the same topics up to a couple weeks ago. Needless to say, it was a shock to hear of his passing.

He was a true gentleman who always walked the talk. He was such a positive influence on so many people’s lives (including mine). It was an honor to know him. You will be missed. God speed!

My most sincere condolences to the entire Titus family.

Steve is one of my best friends. I have only known him for about 15 years but over that time we have become close. He was instrumental in helping me get a job at Sears Hometown Stores 13 years ago. Even though he was about 5 salary grades above me, he never treated me like anything but his equal. He is the most kind, generous, thoughtful, caring, respected and respectful person I have ever met. He was intelligent and his memory was amazing. You want him on your team in a trivia contest. He was passionate about anything he did, regardless of whether it was work, softball, gardening, cooking or time with his family and friends. I didn’t share his love of the New York Yankees, but you have to respect a fan who knows everything about every player on their roster. I was struck by the fact that, even in a crowded restaurant, he was never ashamed about taking his hat off, bowing his head, and leading us in prayer before a meal, whenever we had lunch together. In our conversations it was obvious that he adored his family, and he was so proud of them, especially his kids and their families, his wife Terri, and his parents. He so enjoyed his grandkids! Just last week we were talking and I mentioned my son who died at birth. I told him I often wonder what might have been. He shared with me that he often wonders what his daughter, Amie’s kids would have looked like. This was via text so I don’t know for sure if I was the only one who shed a tear during that exchange, but I think he did.
To say that Steve was a great man is an enormous understatement. He will undoubtedly be missed by anyone who knew him. It’s very sad that he is gone, but I am very happy that he was born and I was able to call him my friend.
I miss you already, Steve. Rest in Peace.

Steve,
Your little cousin Robin Lee, here. So many memories of us have flooded my mind, the last few days. You were here first, then I came. We spend a lot of time at Granny and Grandpa’s on that farm, in Casey, IL. You would come for extended stays, I would be there, too. You were my protector and I’m sure I was under your watchful eye. We sold corn from Grandpa’s field, along route 40. Totally unsupervised. Our parents and Granny and Grandpa knew you would take care of me. Then Susan and Sara came, I had my little girl cousins to play with, but you and I always kept that bond. We grew up, You had your GTO, I had my Trans AM. The minute you got to a Granny’s , of course you had to drive it. Away, we went to Greenup, at top speed! You and Dad had such a special relationship, too. He was saying how he named you Atheta. Who knows how he came up with that? He told you when you turned, he would quit calling you that. You came running your his car, uncle Eddie, I’m 5!!!! You can stop calling me Atheta!!!
We are all heartbroken you are not here with us. I do know that you are in Heaven and having the biggest reunion and hugs with Uncle Frank, Amie, Granny and Grandpa to name a few.
Until I meet you again. I love you, Steve❤️

I first met Steve well-over 25 years ago when he was responsible for converting the Sears Dealer network to the Hometown Stores. I was fortunate enough to been hired by Steve to help him with that process. We became friends and. ultimately business partners as he moved on past Sears. We often shared stories of our respected families well into the night. I learned to respect and love Steve Titus as a man. and a trusted business advisor. My heart is saddened by the family's loss, but know the universe is a much greater place because of Steve’s presence.

As I told Melissa this morning on the telephone, "Your Dad was always, always someone that I looked up to even though I was five years older!" I first met Steve in Jackson, MI when we were neighbors. He moved in and asked me to join a softball team. That's the type of man that Steve was. He was always thinking of the welfare of the next person. He was like an uncle to our two boys and they always thought of Mr. Titus as their role model.  Steve and Terri, his wife, attended both son's weddings in 2008 and 2010 flying to Virginia and California, respectively. That's how much these boys meant to "Mr. Titus," as they both called him. Steve was a hard working man. I would frequent many Kilwin locations (Steve introduced me to Toasted Coconut Ice Cream) and would ask the owner if he knew Steve. The answer was always the same. The owner would say, "Wow! Steve set me up in this business and I am so grateful to him for helping me with my financing and building my business." I called the local Kilwin's owner here in The Villages this morning and I could tell that he was disraught and still in disbelief of Steve's passing. Steve was a whirlwind. I remember him going out for softball teams and they'd say, "Yeah, OK, go out into right field and we'll talk later." Their eyes would fly open when he would get up to bat and he'd hit three or four out of the ball park! Steve always told me that, "I think they thought I was just a librarian showing up on my day off!" Loved this man and will miss him dearly. May God hold him in the palm of his sacred hand and may HE give solace to his wonderful wife Terri and his family. Love, Nancy and Joe Ward

We are honored to have had Steve as such an integral part of our lives. He was like a brother instead of a cousin to my Mother, Cathy. He was always there to be a sounding board on so many curve balls that life throws. He & Terri are such a wonderful example of true Christians and a solid marriage. Steve's generosity & kindness over the years to my family will never be forgotten. His laugh was like no other when he really got going. A laughter that came from so far within. He could literally crack himself up when telling a funny story and could make the person listening do the same. The stories he told of my Grandfather were like no other. He kept his memory alive for many years with the stories he told me. He always reminded me how much I was loved and how special I was. Such a man of honor that me and my family were so blessed to have as a part of our lives. A true follower of Christ, a wonderful Father and husband and a legacy that will live on. Finding peace that he is with his precious Amy and and amazing Fathers. We will mourn his loss, but rejoice that he is with the Lord and his loved ones. Love you so much Steve. Hugs and prayers for our amazing Titus family.

Mr. Titus was a family friend for many years and was our neighbor in Jackson, Michigan. I remember I last saw him at my brother's wedding and he was so upbeat and happy to see all of us. He was so genuine and wanted to know how we were doing. I was going through cancer treatments in 2018 and Mr. Titus gave me so much support and positivity. He would check in with my Dad and I often to see how I was doing...that's the type of person he was!

I'm going to miss Mr. Titus a lot! My wife and I send our prayers and condolences to the Titus family.

Every man has a purpose .... Steve’s legacy will not be represented by the years working at Sears or time spent promoting Kilwins , but will be forever remembered for the lives he changed through his actions and discipleship. I know firsthand. He changed mine forever. Steve’s ability to share the gospel with exuberance and clarity changed how I saw God and how He was worked in my own life. I am profoundly grateful for the placement of Steve in my life and the tremendous impact he has had upon me and my own journey. He will live in me forever. Peace be with you Steve.

I’ve had the pleasure of being Steve’s softball teammate the last 7 years and have shared some great memories both on the field and around a table after games. Steve was more than just a teammate as he took interest in my family, professional life, hobbies and always had words of advice or wisdom to share that made him so special. My young daughters always loved attending the games, as they knew Steve would reward them with a chocolate bar! Even if they weren't there, he'd send a few home with me for the girls. I am truly grateful to have known Steve and will dearly miss our chats and his great spirit. My wife Lindsay and I send our love and prayers to the Titus family and to all of those who are grieving the loss of such a great man.

He and Terri were part of our small group for a few years and we all loved getting to know them both- he shared some fishing pictures with the group and did not know that I am an avid fisherman- after seeing the pictures I said I have to come fish with you- I fished with Steve many times over the years and caught some huge bass- He was always so generous with his time and resources- he allowed me to bring friends and kids to fish there and I will never forget that- I also played softball with him this past year and really enjoyed the way he lead the team as the pitcher and manager (and he brought Kilwins chocolate!) I am not a Yankees fan but will hold them in a special place from now on since Steve loved them so much- we will miss you brother-

Steve was such an amazing person. He always treated me and everyone with so much respect while being genuinely interested in what any of us had to say.
His passion for softball and competing was inspiring. While he may have “lost a step” as far as running, he could still pitch the hell out of that ball and hit the ball with authority.
I was honored to play the game on his team and even more honored to have known the man, even though it was only the last 3 years of his softball career. Bringing home the amazing chocolate to my wife, a true chocolate lover, that he almost always had at every game was an extra special treat. RIP Steve. Love you and you will truly be missed in so many ways.

Loss of a great boss

February 17, 2021
Such a great loss, my memories of Steve as part of Sears, as a young DSM he so impressed me because as the CEO of Sears Hometown he always took time to make sure and recognize even a new dsm to the company. Steve was a person to always stay in touch with all of us. When we all left Sears, he was still one that I looked up to a mentor in my life that I will never forget, our prayers from the Eihausen’s go out to the Titu

Years ago when I heard ‘the length of a minute depends on which side of the bathroom door you are on’ I recalled an incident from when I was very small. I was standing in line for the only bathroom at Granny Price’s house afraid I wouldn't make it to the door in time but far too shy to say anything. Steven, who had to be a teenager at the time, was in front of me. He looked at me with compassion and, without a word, changed places with me. The fact I still remember that incident so clearly – 50 years later ! – speaks to how grateful I was for his act of kindness -- to a little girl he hardly knew.
