Sumio Michael Nishinaka, (Mike) 70, died peacefully in his home surrounded by family on November 13th, 2016. He is survived by his wife Laurie, daughter Kiyomi, grandchildren Skye and Dream, Sister Yuki, her husband George, brothers Gene, Wayne and Tom. He is predeceased by his daughter Sumayah, and brother Ray.
Mike volunteered to serve his country, joined the Air Force, and served in the Vietnam war.
He worked for many years installing telecommunications systems, and found out he was referred to as “a legend” by people he had worked with because of some of the very large installations he designed and oversaw. His other nickname was “the nice guy”.
He was both honorable and sincere. He was generous with both his money and his time, and if a friend really needed it, he would give them the shirt off of his back. He often complimented strangers just to bring a smile to someone’s face. He had an infectious laugh that would get people laughing just from hearing it.
He had the ability to make any occasion an event just by being himself.
He was an avid fisherman, and loved the outdoors.
He showed all of us how to lead a good and happy life.
Private interment.
