A Gift Angel

September 25, 2019
Debbie:
We live not too far from the Saddlers and our home was on Sue's regular path when she'd walk the dog. We always enjoyed little chats in the front yard when she'd pass by. And also, after Mathias was born she would ask what size diapers he was wearing and the next time we'd see her on her walk she'd have a pack of diapers for us that would come right as we were running low or out. I felt like she was a little diaper angel.

Also her 50th birthday celebration party was the most impressively planned and fun party I had ever been to. Her attention to detail and knowing what kids enjoyed was amazing. I am bummed that Mathias will not have had the opportunity to have Sue as a teacher in the 3 year olds in Sunday School. To see how all those 3 year old adored Sue at her party warmed my heart.

Robin:
The time we shared together was always sweet and I will miss Sue very much. I regret not spending more time with Sue and Tom...

Sue is in the presence of our awesome God, and what a blissful reality that must be!

I will always remember the intentional look Sue would give when she shared a conversation with me. It was a look that said I am with you and present here. I care about you and what you have to say.

If we get to remember one another at that mysterious yet great time of Resurrection, I look forward to seeing Sue again and experiencing friendship with her again in the kingdom of God.

A Dear Friend

September 20, 2019
I've known Sue for 30 years even if we probably met together under 10 times!
We first met in 1989. I was then a new christian and member of a Grace Brethren Church in Burgundy, France. Sue was staying in Annecy so not that close but somehow we got connected through youth leaders. I remember going to the French Jura, Switzerland and Paris together.
She then graduated and met ‘Tomo', probably not in this order ..I was only able to visit once, meeting her family,  but we got together as they accompanied students to France and later met also in London where they happened to be there on our wedding day! Such a blessing!!
Sue was always listening, encouraging and so relaxed and gentle.
We had such a great time with Sue and ‘Tomo' at Easter 2018. Many good sharing times at the breakfast table. Sue had made sure we could share some French delicacies together. She always thought of others and reaching out. She set up to teach a verse a day to our children. She had such a presence and enthusiasm that they were very keen to learn.
In her last letter after Christmas she told us she was looking forward to our next encounter... Dear sister, it will now be in Our Lord's presence...  We'll miss you so dearly over here.

A Shining Lady in Frontline

September 19, 2019
In Yosemite Frontline Camp I got some time to talk with Sue.  I was struggling with not having peace in my heart even after I had accepted Jesus Christ as my savior two months before.  I knew she had a heart problem, but she was shining the most among us in Frontline, so I asked her a question, “Why do you look so happy all that time?  I wanted to become a christian because I wanted to have peace like “the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”  I read Bible every day and pray every day, but I still feel insecure. “  She stared at me and started talking to me with a serious face, “Oh, Akiko.  I still get worried, too.  So I pray whenever I get worried.  Then after a while I get worried again.  Then I pray.  But right after when I get up in a morning, I get worried.  Then do you know what I do?”   I said, “Pray.”  “That’s right.”  And she prayed for me.  I decided to start praying like her.  six months later I realized that I had peace deep inside of my heart like a river flowing out from God’s well which will never end.  Since then I remember Sue’s words and pray whenever I feel discouraged and feel miserable.   I know she is special to many people, but absolutely she is a very special person in my life.  Thank you so much, Sue, our angel.

Frontline Yosemite trip

September 13, 2019
I've known Susan for so long, my mom's student in elementary school, and a church friend for many years.  When we were in the Frontline college group, Sue always glowed with the Lord's love and joy.  The last time I went camping was in Yosemite with Frontline way back in 1992.  I am not a big camping fan but I loved Yosemite so I wanted to go and I would just endure the dirt. I remember not getting to shower the first night, and for some reason the 2nd night I couldn't get to the showers until after dark. I needed a flashlight and wanted someone to go with me but alas, none of the other girls wanted to go. I was getting very frustrated, and I remember Sue coming up to me asking me what was wrong.  I know it sounds silly, but I just broke down, and Sue was so sweet, she just put her arm around me and said, "We'll find you someone to go with you." She then found my sister, Laura, and explained to her that I needed someone with a flashlight to go to the showers with me.  I apologized for crying, and Sue just gave me a hug and said not to even worry about it. I will always remember Sue for her kindness, joy, and loving spirit, such an incredible example of God's love!

Miss Sue

September 11, 2019
I had the privilege of knowing Miss Sue when my 3 year old daughter was in her classroom last year. We were invited to her 50th birthday party and it was such a blessing to hear her story and be a part of celebrating with her.  Miss Sue had so much charisma and positive outlook on life. I pray that I can look at life at least half of the way that she did.  She was one of the first people that reached out to me with kindness when I first attended Grace. I also got to help her one day volunteering in the 3's class and seeing her calm and gentle spirit working with the little ones. Miss Sue would always stop and chat and say hi with the upmost sincerity and I will think of her often, we need more Miss Sue's in this world. She will be GREATLY missed.

Teacher Sue

September 11, 2019
I had the opportunity to work with Teacher Sue in the 3s Sunday School class for about 3.5 years. I always witnessed her being so cheerful and calm while in the classroom. The little ones adored the songs she sang with them;  my son was one of those that loved singing "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes" in different languages. My heart breaks knowing she no longer will be able to share her love for Jesus. We will miss her sweet spirit.
