Biography

July 6, 2016

On Tuesday, the 7 th of March, 1947, the late Mrs Susuana Asi Tetteh (nee Ahuma Ocansey), was born to Caesar Augustus Akpakli Ahuma Ocansey (a.k.a Shall Pass) of Ocansey Agbom, Ada , and Madam Patience Maseyo Agu of Tamatoku, Ada. Both parents have passed on.

She attended Ashaiman Primary School and further completed her Middle School Leaving Certificate at Tema Akodzo Mixed, Community one, in 1966. During her school days, she was very sportive. She was an excellent athlete, where she was given the name ‘Asaagba Minten’ or ‘ Mosquito’ because she was swift and smart on the run with her then very smallish and slim physique.

Shortly after her schooling, she studied dress design and sewing, where she met her late husband, Mr. John Cofie Tetteh (J.C), a chief engineer of the Black Star Line. They later got married and due to the husband’s job, the couple travelled to several places overseas.

While in Glasgow, Scotland, Mrs Tetteh continued with her sewing studies and career. She sewed and worked for Marks and Spencer while in the United Kingdom. She was an extremely industrious person and hence also studied hair dressing while there.

Their marriage was blessed with seven children, five sons and two daughters.

Mrs Tetteh was born a Presbyterian, but in later years, around 1976, when she returned to Ghana, she joined the Bible Believers Fellowship. In her search for more, her and J.C. later joined the Evening Light Fellowship and eventually, the Tema Local Christian Assembly in the late 1980s (now the Vertical Centre Restoration Tabernacle) with her late husband J.C.

She was a church person. She loved the Lord, and was always in fellowship with brethren. Her life was built around church and its activities. She would not fail to share her belief with anyone she came into contact with. For her, she always said that ‘Christianity is a life lived’ and she lived that life. There was never a time she did not share the word of God with anyone she came into contact with.

In the year, 1997, her husband and her decided to operate a day care centre in their house at community eight, Tema. They both worked tirelessly to maintain the school.

Unfortunately, in the year 2000, she lost her husband and became a widow. This loss left her shattered, but believing God, He gave her the grace and strength to bear that loss as only He can do.

Being a determined and hardworking person, Mrs Tetteh went for Preschool Teachers Training to obtain a certificate in Early Childhood Education in the year 2001, in Accra. She returned to continue with the operation of the day care centre, which was called Bethel Early Childhood Development Centre.

In 2008, she, together with some new partners, transformed the school and changed its name to Oakwood Creche and Preschool Centre (now Oakwood School).

Mrs Tetteh was not an ambitious person, yet, she was very hardworking, determined, disciplined, courageous, industrious and an honest person. She had dreams of having a bigger community of children in her school and worked towards it till her demise.

Auntie Suzzy was a very sweet lady, quite a reserved and private person. She loved her family and keeping the family unit together in love was her very delight. She took in many extended family members and cared for them through the years.

She had a very big heart, just like God. She feared not to tell the truth at all times, believing that if she did, God will not hold her responsible for withholding the truth from you. She was full of wisdom, and liked to share through advising anyone that needed it or did not even solicit for it.

Our departed mother and sister had her hobbies. Her favourite ones were cooking, sewing, reading and singing. She made time to attend family events like engagements, marriages, outdooring and funerals. She was an encourager and a motivator, yet she was also a very disciplined person.

Auntie Suzie got unwell one Sunday after church, and was taken to the hospital for care. She was getting well nicely, until that fateful Wednesday afternoon, the 8 th of June, 2016, when she alerted her family of a feeling of unwellness. She was rushed to the Empat- Caiquo Clinic, where she passed away peacefully to the welcome of sweet hymns at Heaven’s gate.

She leaves behind her seven children and thirteen grandchildren, siblings and the rest of the extended family and many friends.

Auntie Suzie, your loss is a big blow to us, but we believe that Precious in the eyes of the Lord is the death of His saints. You have indeed fought the good fight, you have finished your course and you have kept the faith. There is now laid up for you, a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give you – II Timothy 4:7-8
