OBITUARY

Suzanne Louise Freeman of Westlake Village, California, died suddenly on August 11, 2011 while riding her motorcycle on the Pacific Coast Highway near San Simeon, California.

She was with her husband and friends at the time of her death.

She was 64.

Suzanne was born on July 14, 1947, in Dallas, Texas and married Stephen Freeman in 1971. Suzanne graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1975 with a Bachelor of Arts in the German language. She was an active member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority.

Suzanne and Stephen moved to Westlake Village, California in 1976.

Throughout her professional career she worked for Westlake Lutheran Church, Exxon, and for the majority of her career in the Office of the President at California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, California.

She is survived by her husband, Stephen G. Freeman and children David C. Freeman, of Las Vegas, Nevada and Ashley A. Freeman, of Santa Barbara, California.  In addition Suzanne's sister, Janet Baber, of San Antonio, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

Suzanne was a devoted wife of 40 years, a beloved mother, aunt, as well as a friend to many. Her mother, Francis Flick, and father, Jesse Flick, of Dallas, Texas preceded her in death. She was proud of her Texan heritage and never fully lost her endearing southern accent.

All her life, Suzanne loved tennis, reading, cooking, history, knitting and politics. A world wide traveler, Suzanne spent decades filling her passport with stamps and her heart with memories.  Upon  receiving her motorcycle license in celebration of her fiftieth birthday, Suzanne began her passion of seeing the country via her Harley Davidson Softail motorcycle on trips with her husband, family and friends. She was an experienced rider of over 14 years.

Suzanne was a member of New Hope Lutheran Church (formally known as Westlake Lutheran Church) and Ascension Lutheran Church.  She touched lives with her positive attitude, devotion to California Lutheran University as well as with her love and generosity toward others.

Suzanne was loved by her friends and family and lived a full and joyful life. She often said, "Life is good!"

In loving memory of Suzanne, a remarkable wife, mother, and partner…. I can’t believe 12 years have gone by…. but today, as Ashley David and I remember the day you left this world, our hearts ache with the immense void your absence has left behind. Your love and light continue to guide us, even though you're no longer here beside us. Your continuous support in my efforts to build a business, gave me the strength to never give up.

Suzanne, you were the epitome of a loving mother. Your unwavering support, nurturing nature, and endless dedication shaped our children into the remarkable and successful adults they are today. You were their compass, teaching them valuable life lessons and instilling in them the values that will forever be a part of their souls.

As a homemaker, you transformed our house into a sanctuary filled with warmth, comfort, and love. Your attention to detail, the delicious smells wafting from the kitchen, and the laughter echoing through the garden room, made our home a place of solace and joy for all our family and friends. Your creative touch, your ability as a wonderful cook, and the care you poured into every corner of our lives are etched into our memories.

For 40 years, we shared a partnership built on love, trust, and unwavering support. Through the highs and lows, you stood by my side, offering a steady hand and a listening ear. Your wisdom, understanding, and gentle encouragement were the pillars that held us together, even during the most challenging times.

Today, as we reflect on the legacy you've left behind, not only to our family, but to Westlake Lutheran Church, to Exxon, and finally as secretary to the President of California Lutheran University, we find solace in the cherished memories we all hold dear. Your smile, your laughter, and your kind heart will forever be etched in our minds.

Suzanne, you were more than a wife, a mother, an employee and homemaker—you were the heartbeat of our family. Your love continues to illuminate our path, and we carry your memory in our hearts every step of the way. Rest in eternal peace, dear Suzanne, knowing that your legacy lives on through the love and strength you bestowed upon us all.

I want to express my condolences on Suzanne’s passing. I know it’s been several years, but I know everyone still misses her. My parents, Harold and Pat, knew Suzanne’s parents in Dallas. Although I think I only met Suzanne once when we were all living in Dallas, I remember her and how sweet and kind she was. If I’m not mistaken, she met her husband at the apartment complex where they were neighbors. I also remember Janet and hope she’s doing well. I believe she and her husband honeymooned in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. It’s been many years and I googled Suzanne’s name and came up with her obituary. My sympathy to the family. She certainly was a very special person. May she Rest In Peace. I know we will all see her again some day in paradise.

Steve

Marianne and I just completed another Alaska cruise last week and everytime we sail, we think of Suzanne as we depart port or attend an art event. It is funny how those times we shared touched us so much that as the years go by we continue to relish the time spent with you both more and more. Mike and Marianne

There is not a single outing with Steve or good news about David or Ash that goes by where Margie and I don't think about Suzanne.

As recently as yesterday I still well up (as I am now) when talking to Steve about something that included Suzanne in our many times as a foursome.

At the first anniversary of Suzanne's passing we planted a Chinese Pistachio tree in our front yard three years ago and named it Suzanne. Often when leaving the house or coming back home I will look over and say, "Hi Suzanne!".

The vivid memories of Suzanne are as fresh in our minds as her tree that continues to flourish, vibrant in colors and makes us smile.

Miss you so much!

(Ps..... Hey Suz! Steve is turning out to be a good cook. You would be proud!)

One cannot think of Suzi without it putting a smile on your face instantly!
Such a positve, happy bright light.. she touched everyone she met, leaving one feeling like you just met an Angel on earth, and she was that; and still is back Home...
Miss your quiet humor and loud laughter, Suzi... I was blessed to know you; and am still blessed knowing your family still: it's apparent you are still guiding them all!

As we remember this day and the loss of our dear friend, Marianne and I remember the wonderful times we spent together. Even the pictures of cruises you took without us, we took the same ones and feel like we were with you on that cruise as well. That is how infectious Suzanne was. Even when you are looking at a piece of art you find yourself saying Suzanne would love that.

Tomorrow (7/14) will be a special day for Margie and I.

This afternnon I went to a local nursery and bought a tree. In the morning, with help from our gardner, I will plant a Chinese Pistachio tree in the center of our front yard. It is our way to always keep the memories fresh, the love cherished and the freindship never forgotten.

Memorial Cross at Ragged Point

August 17, 2017

Last year in June, Dave and I laid a cross on Hwy 1 at Ragged Point in Big Sur according to the coordinates we were given, and through our gut instinct on where your accident occurred. We shared a bottle of wine and drank to you, Mom. You were so couragous and brave! You gave your heart fully, generously, and without expectations. You loved unconditionally. You continue to be my inspiration in life. I miss you so much. Highway 1 has been closed now due to a landslide, but when it opens, if anyone happens to see this cross still standing, please let us know!!
