This memorial was created to bring together our memories of beloved Swarna Devi. She lived a long, fulfilling life as a wife (Late Shri R. Ram), sister (Laxmi devi, Mathura Das), mother to 4 daughters(Shanti, Maina, Parvati, Suman) and a son(Prakash chand/Pashi), grandmother to several grandkids, and great-grandmother to more than half a dozen kids. Her family tree is large, with strong roots nurtured by her. 

She loved telling stories, with vivid detail, thanks to her very sharp memory and impeccable sense of humor. 

She can be described as a Lady with a heart of gold - true to her name "Swarna" which means Gold in Sanskrit. 

She had unlimited love to shower on her family and anyone that came in her presence. She set very high standards for those around her by leading a life of routine, discipline, hard work and always a smile and hug to offer. 


She was a true Nirankari, believing in her faith and trusting in Nirankar till the very end.

Dearest Nani, everytime I drive on the A4 highway for a moment I get ecstatic as impulsively a feeling comes that the destination is your home where you await us warmly with a tight hug, a big smile and endless goodies - tea, halwa, biscuits, sweets, nuts, fruits..appelmoes for kids.. always!!  Can't wait to hug you again and hear your sweet laughter.

Happy Birthday, Nani. It’s been 10 months since you suddenly left us. I still often for a split second think “challo Nani ko facetime karte hain”… and then comes the realization that I can’t anymore. I cannot see you, I cannot seek advice from you, ask how your day was, I cannot talk to you anymore about your Hindi serials and I can’t show you all the things Arya and Nuria can do now. You are missed Nani. Today I told Arya that it’s your birthday. And she asked me who Badi Nani was. I am going to tell her stories of you and keep your memories alive.

The last few days you used to amaze us with your talks... we thought .arre Nani ko heart attach hua hai still you are so energetic and talking to family continously.

Even though I feel continuous blessing and your presence. I immensely miss your presence and the feeling of security - Nani hai.. I can go to her anytime, any day. The other day I by mistake dialled your phone number 023-5652551... alas no one answered not this time!

Will try to be a fraction of your personality, your loving selfless being. Miss you Nani.. till we meet again... my everlasting love and prayers for a happy continuation of your journey.

Maa meri pyaari maa Tumko shat shat naman. You lived a contended, saintly life and showered your love on one and all equally. Born in a small village of Himachal Pradesh, India, and brought up in a family having faith in God . Her grandfather was worshiped as ‘sadh’ and saints kept visiting him. Though very young ,Ammaji and her sister Laxmi made langar for them.Her maternal grandfather was a follower of preachings of Guru Granth Sahib (holy book of Sikhism with verses from guru Nanakji and others).  Loving and serving all was thus, imbibed in her and reflected in her journey of life. She was strong but polite. She was always there for us whenever we needed her and hope she will keep guiding us forever. We will always remember her smiling face , sweet talks and love she showered on us. Will miss her on FaceTime

Nani means maternal grandmother in Hindi language. 

If you spent anytime with Nani, you know she liked things clean, really clean. 

Her hands were washed a million times while working in the kitchen. The buckets in the bathroom were washed before and after use, something that none of us even thought of doing! Clean bedsheets were washed because they hadn’t been used in a while. Known for long showers, she didn’t want to change anything about her.
