This memorial website was created in the memory of our loved one, Sylvester Johnson, Sr., 52, born on December 1, 1959 and passed away on August 30, 2012.

Just before midnight on August 30, 2012 God decided it was time for Sylvester's soul to be at his side. God would not have taken our beloved Sly unless he left us with something to remember him by, and we are so grateful to have him remain with us through his wonderful sons Sylvester Jr., Samson and Savion. We remember Sly for his dedication to love, family and his community. He loved his family deeply and presence will be missed by friends, colleagues and customers because Sly was a man of character who celebrated the human experience and he truly enjoyed the life he was given! We will remember him forever.

Please help Sylvester (Sly's) family raise the necessary costs for the boys to attend the family memorial that will take place on September 14, 2012 in St. Louis. Donations are being accepted on www.paypal.com at the following email address: thegdiva@yahoo.com All additional donations will go toward Sly's two young children, Samson and Savion's college fund.

Memories of a Magnificent Man

September 7, 2012

I have lots of good memories of Sly. He was a great person, a stellar stylist, and a fantastic friend. He was so talented and shared his talent freely with others. Once, he helped demonstrate a technique on finger waves on my hair-those were the best finger waves I ever had. I remember him giving me great advice, sharing knowledge, food for thought or food for our bellies. He would always buy breakfast burritos from me when I would deliver to the shop. He even attended birthday parties for Bianca, my friend and stylist at Sly's Salon, and although there was an age difference he blended seemlessly in with the crowd and kept us entertained in the back of the limo. One thing I will forever treasure is a deep conversation we had about opening my heart to find new love after the loss of my husband, soul mate and best friend who was murdered a few blocks from his shop on Grant Street. He told me to write a list of qualities I wanted in a man, put it in my wallet and when I met people to refer to the list and see how they measured up. Needless to say, I still have the list and I'm still single but it allowed to me see whats important to me and that I wasnt ready to settle for anything less. I never had anyone take the time to offer an honest male persective on how to find a good man. I thank him for that! I always admired his relationship with Ghandia and his boys. They were a picture perfect family all with lovely locks. I watched Ghandia perform in plays, and remember how she was always so energetic. She used to love the Hunid Racks energy drink that I would sometimes bring to the salon. I know that as such a strong, beautiful, black woman no thing or no one will keep her from living life to the fullest. I pray not just for continued strength but comfort, peace and prosperity for her, Savion and Samson. My prayers are with all who knew him because no matter what the circumstances his presence, positive energy, and unforgettable personality will be forever missed!
In Loving Memory of a magnificent man, my friend, Sly Rest Peacefully!!!!!

The Bibles Promise

September 4, 2012

Although I did not personally know your dear Sylvester, I can see he was a man that really touched many hearts, full of life and personality. I want to express my sincere sympathy to all of his family and friends.

I too have lost family and friends in death and it is one of the hardest things that anyone can ever go through. I have found comfort from the scriptures and I hope you can as well. The bible is so clear in its message to humankind and is so beautifully written for us to learn from and know the truth. God has a name, Jehovah, (found at Psalms 83:18) and he wants us to use it and know the truth about him and his son Jesus.  Jehovah wants all of us to know that he is a God of all comfort at 2 Corinthians 1:3,4 and hates that you are in pain from losing your dear Sylvester. He knows that pain better than anyone could understand. But he wants mankind to know  about what he promises in the Bible regarding all of our dead loved ones, that is found in John chapter 5 verse 28 &29. There it says that all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out. So just like Jesus awakened Lazarus from death-he will do the same for our dead loved ones. Jehovah and his son Jesus desire that time more than we can ever imagine. But that Bible also holds another truth about death. At Revelation 21:3, 4- it says that Jehovah will get rid of death along with pain and sorrow. How comforting it is to know that Jehovah God did not plan for life to be this way and is going to make changes very soon and we will be able to see our loved ones again.

I hold these scriptues near to my heart and they have brought me great comfort in knowing the truth about death and the wonderful prospects for mankind in the near future. I love sharing what I've learned from the Bible with people, so please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like to know more: encouragement99@gmail.com

With Deep Sympathy,

Stacy K.
