His Life
November 25, 2013

Taek Hyun Kim was born in Seoul, South Korea in 1945.  While attending a university in Korea, he also studied abroad in Germany.  After graduation, he worked for many years at the Pohang Steel Company (POSCO), one of the largest steel manufacturers in the world.  Taek spent a significant number of years in Germany working for POSCO due to his German language skills.  For the rest of his life, he greatly admired the German language and culture.

Although he was successful professionally in Korea, he chose to move to the United States in search of better opportunities for his two sons, Young Wook and Young Mo.  After some years of retraining, he became an electronics technician working at various technology manufacturing firms in the Santa Clara Valley, California.

He saw his sons grow up and find success of their own.  Both sons graduated from universities in the United States and each found satisfying professional careers.  They married and had children.  His three granddaughters too will one day thank their grandfather for the decision he made.

At age 62, he was diagnosed with a late-stage cancer.  The diagnosis was grim but he accepted the difficult cancer treatments.  He achieved remission.  Unfortunately, the cancer came out from remission and Taek faced more difficult treatments.  He ultimately succumbed to the ravages of the disease and passed away in peace, surrounded by his wife and his two sons.
