First time on a real golf course was with Tarry, Ron, and Brent. We walked the longest course in town. I think I shot 160. Can't imagine the patience it took to watch us kids hack around. There is an infamous story about backpacking and scaring Jr high kids with bobcat stories. Spoiler alert, the role of the bobcat was played by Tarry. Later coached baseball with Tarry. A great friend, mentor, and role model. Gone too soon.

Tarry Allen Rollf     July 31, 1960 – February 16, 2021

Tarry was born in Fresno, California to Harry and Beverly Rollf. He lived in Fresno his entire life.

Tarry met his wife (Jana Dull) at First Presbyterian Church. They were married for 40 years. Tarry was a devoted husband and father. He was a family man who enjoyed doing activities with family and friends including sporting events, camping, hiking, waterskiing, bicycling, hunting, golfing with his sons, and many other activities.

Tarry was a gifted and talented Picture Framer for 42 years. After spending 20 years at Tom Mott Framemaker, he opened up his own business, Rollf’s Gallery and Picture Framing. He won numerous National awards for his creative framing abilities, including being interviewed (at the age of 26 years old) by the editor of Decor Magazine where the editor stated, how amazed how young he was to win the Professional Picture Framers Association Print Framing Competition. Tarry was sought after by local artists and Interior Designers.

Tarry came to know Jesus as his Lord and Savior while attending First Presbyterian Church (Fresno) in his youth. He was a member for 50 years and served as Elder, Sunday School Teacher, and a Youth Advisor. He was currently attending Trinity Community Church. Jana and Tarry were second parents for me growing up best friends with their son, Drew.

When we were toddlers, I was a very picky eater and I think Tarry's mission was to get me to give new foods a try. He would always get new foods in front of me (mostly his awesome grilling with new flavors and seasonings) and try to get me to mix up my order at Taco Bell (an after church favorite drive thru for us).

As we got older, Drew and I also went to school right across the street from his former frame shop location, and he would walk us over to hang out in the back while he finished working before going home. He always questioned us about what we learned, but he was also very involved in how we treated our classmates and the relationships we made with others. He also let us watch Gargoyles, which was awesome, but probably also to make us stop distracting him so much.

Oddly enough, I remember our last one on one conversation very well. I had an opportunity in private to speak and wanted to thank Tarry for helping shepard me growing up, and for the home he and Jana always shared with me. He shrugged it off (of course) but did share one more piece of insight: I didn't make you you, but I hope I made you ask yourself what kind of man you wanted to be.

Tarry was funny, passionate, creative, and so invested in the lives of those he loved. All of us lucky enough to be recipients are the better for it. I'll try and remember his lesson and focus forward to be the best I can for those around me.

So much love to the Rollf's, and all other family and friends who are sharing in this loss.

Going to miss this creative guy.

I knew Tarry from First Presbyterian Church, part of the extended family of Rollfs, Dulls and Motts. I still don't know who's connected to who and how, but I love that it's confusing me even 20 years after meeting them all.

Tarry and Jana and the boys were among the favorite families that hosted First Presbyterian's "Networker" church interns. My wife Shiela and I were advisors then and I remember having dinner as a group at the Rollf's house and experiencing their hospitality.

I also hired Tarry to build some frames for a handful of plasma screen monitors I used to show off my photography at trade shows. Tarry did a great job with the measurements for each screen horizontal and vertical screen, choosing some really impressive wood and getting it all put together at a price I could manage. I had a lot of people comment how cool the frames were--it was due to Tarry's handywork, of course! I still have a few of the screens in my home with the frames still on.

Shiela and I remain grateful for Tarry's life and will miss him...remembering those very good things.
