From: Aunt Rose Fields and Uncle Charles Marable:
   To: Our Nephew, Ahmad Mubarak,
and our two beautiful Nieces, Aleyah and Sabrinah:
We want you to know that as your family, we stand strongly with you in this time of loss. Please know that our love for you is stronger than ever.
Into each life, some rain must fall. There are happy times and sad times. As children of the Most High, we know and are thankful that the good times outweigh the sad or bad times. We have, just as you have, so many, many happy memories of our beloved Fannie (Taufiqah).
Ahamd, you are a part of the Marable clan. As always you will be included in whatever is going on in this family. You will always have a seat at the family table.
Aleyah and Sabrinah, you are beautiful, strong women. As great-grandchildren of a former slave, Morris Marable, you must fight on, pick up the pieces and go on with your lives as he did in times of adversity.
We wish you the courage to face the empty place at the table and the days ahead with loving memories to forever hold in your hearts.
------Love, Aunt Rose, and Uncle Charles

Those of us who are members of the Marable ancestry dearly loved Fannie (Taufiqah). We have been left with a great void in our spirit. Please be assured that someone so precious and special will never be forgotten.
We will miss, but always remember her happy smile, her bubbly personality, her wisdom and knowledge about life, and her love for family.
The family reunion, and all family gatherings, were top priorities on her schedule. She was always there doing all she could to make these events memorable.
May her soul rest in everlasting peace and may the Almighty grant solace to Ahamd, Aleyah, and Sabrinah. We dearly love you all and pledge to remember you in our thoughts and prayers. Please know that your family stands with you in this difficult time. If we can be of any assistance to you, please do not hesitate to call.
We bow our heads to the will of God, the Father of us all. May she enjoy her eternal rest and the reward she has earned.
-----With Love----The Descendants of W.M. and Fannie Marable

Dearest Mr Mubarak, Aleyah and family,
Shuaib and our girls send our heartfelt condolences! We are saddened to hear that your sweet and dear Wife, Mother and friend to many has passed. Shuaib and I have such fond memories of our time spent in Dubai with Mr and Mrs Mubarak just a mere 2 years ago. Aleyah it was a magical time witnessing the lovely interaction between your Mom and Dad as they tasted new foods, watched a beautiful song filled light show at the Dubai Mall, engaged in lots of shared adventure stories of our wordly travels and savored desert in our home. Your Mom was so funny taking a multitude of pictures with her iPAD. We were beyond blessed and grateful to spend our appointed time with your lovely spirited Mom and Dad. May your faith give you strength during these challenging times. May your memories and legacy of love, a whisper of her voice, or a certain scent that may remind you of her ease the void and kiss you with a smile or laugh ! May God grant her peace and mercy as she now rests in heaven! We love you and will continue to pray for your family!

To Aleyah, Sabrinah, and Ahmad,
I feel like I have lost a sister because Taufiquah and I were just that close. I was so happy that I was able to spend time with Taufiquah at Ahmad's 80th birthday party last year. I will truly miss her.

Aunt Fannie was kind, hearted and warm. She welcomed me with open arms when I began to date Robyn 15 years ago. When we married her welcoming spirit continued as we enjoyed the hospitality of the Mubarak’s home and pool during wonderful dinners, and pool parties. I will miss her hospitality and warm smile.

Her Life

Taufiqah "Fannie" Mubarak

March 15, 2021
Taufiqah Fannie Grimmett Mubarak was born June 30, 1941 to the late Green and Ruth Grimmett in Hamtramck, Michigan.  She attended Kasha & Dwyer Elementary School and graduated with honors from Northern High School in Detroit, MI.

Fannie was a very active young lady.  Even though her father was very strict and a serious disciplinarian, it was said Fannie was a social butterfly.  While attending school she was captain of the cheerleaders.  Joining and attending Springhill Missionary Baptist Church, she was lead soloist in the choir.  And, with such a beautiful voice, Fannie was recruited by Motown Records.  Of course, Dad put his foot down with a serious NO.

Fan had some very interesting life experiences.  One occurred while she was working for Kresge Department Store in Detroit.  As a cashier, she was approached by an armed robber demanding her to open the register.  Fan replied with an emphatic "No" and told the robber to come back in 20 minutes when a "white" cashier would be there to replace her.  Since she was getting married and was afraid that Management would think that she put the man up to stealing the money for her upcoming wedding.  Well, he would not leave and finally opened the register himself!

At age 24, Fan met her future husband and the love of her life, Arthur Geter Jr. at Selfridge Air Force National Guard Base in Michigan.  at that time it was customary for church groups to provide transportation for young black women to the base to socialize with the black airmen.

Five years later, August 28, 1963, Fan and Arthur married.  Prior to the wedding, Fan made hotel reservations for her wedding party.  Of course, the reservations were cancelled once they arrived.  Fan didn't skip a beat.  She immediately switched to survivor mode and found overnight accommodations for her family and friends.  The next day following the wedding the newlyweds moved to Newark, New Jersey.  Shortly thereafter they converted to the Islam Religion as Taufiqah and Ahmad Mubarak.  Later in 2009, her and her husband, Ahmad, traveled to Saudi Arabia to make Hajj, a once in a lifetime event.

Life was moving fast for Taufiqah.  February 6, 1967, a daughter, Aleyah was born.  The same year, as a birthday gift, Ahmad purchased a house for Taufiqah and the family moved to Scotch Plains, New Jersey.  A second daughter, Sabrinah, was born June 5, 1970.

Taufiqah worked a short while at Prudential Insurance Company in Scotch Plains.  Began her college studies at Essex County College in nursing.  It was not long before Taufiqah realized nursing was not for her.  She fainted at the first site of a cadaver and immediately switched to a teaching career.  Taufiqah obtained an Associate Degree from Essex County College in 1976; a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Early Childhood Education in 1978; and a Master of Arts Degree in Early Childhood Education in 1993 both from Kean College.  She remained a teacher for 25 years until her retirement in 2005.

Active in many organizations, Taufiqah was a member of the New Jersey Education Association (NJEA); National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa Inc. Epsilon Alpha Chapter; Xinos; Sister2Sister New Jersey; and, a Lifetime Member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).

Taufiqah loved to travel and didn't let her professional life keep her and the family home.  Traveling to Hershey Park, Disneyland, the Geter Family Reunions in Florida, the Marable Family Reunions to Tuskegee and other trips all across the world.  Everyone hated them but Mom mandated it.  Aleyah cried until she became physically ill, Sabrinah tailed behind, and Ahmad fussed.  Despite the issues, Mom pulled them through and everyone enjoyed each and every trip.  Later in life, Taufiqah and Ahmad enjoyed road trips every year to Ocean City, Maryland for the Annual Ocean City Custom Car Show and frequent road trips to many different parts of the US.  Then, it was International travel visiting Dubai, Oman, Hawaii, Mexico, England and cruising to Alaska, Italy, Rome, Spain, Cuba and up the Nile.  Such memories!

Taufiqah and Ahmad were lifelong partners and companions that spanned a 58-year love affair, which was cut short following a nine year battle with breast cancer.  On March 11, 2021, Taufiqah was called home to join her mom and dad, Ruth and Green Grimmett, sister Bernice Grimmett, and brother Aaron Grimmett.  She leaves to mourn and cherish her memory, her husband Ahmad Mubarak; her children Aleyah Mubarak and Sabrinah Mubarak; her sisters Dorothy Jordan, Annie Grimmett, and Vickie Stamps (Aubrey); sister-in-laws Fredna Grimmett (Aaron's wife), Sherli McKinnie; brother-in-law Lee Geter (Pat);  God sister Pat Alston-Wopt (Alvin).  Dearest lifelong friends Etta Ray and LailaBey; Aunt Rosa Lee Fields and Uncle Charles Marable; nieces and nephews Robert Jordan Jr., Alberta Jordan Rigsby (William), Tonya Brown (Derwin), Aaron Grimmett, Jada Walker, Wendy Bailey (Michael), Vikki Pawlowicz (Tommie), Kim McKinnie, Sherri Montgomery (Blair), Kevin Geter (Claritza) and a host of great and great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

Scotty and I will surely miss our cruising partner.
He and Ahmad aka “ArthurJeter”  (one word) would find a chair in the shade to reminisce about Vaux Hall while Taufiqah and I would go shopping/looking on the ship or in one of the ports.  We had planned to sail to Venice, Italy and to ports in Australia in 2020 before covid destroyed that plan.  When it is safe to travel again I will be sure to take those two trips in honor of Taufiqah Mubarak. ♥️♥️

Aunt Fannie, Aunt Taufiqah, Aunt T,...Auntie!!

March 15, 2021
When I think about my aunt, the first thing that comes to mind is how giving she was.  She gave of her time, her money, her home and most of all her heart.  Auntie was always willing to help anyone, and she wasn't a sayer but a doer.  She never came to your house without bringing something - that old school southern charm and I never heard her say a bad word about anyone, even if provoked!  Auntie's smile and attitude towards life was contagious and uplifting to all who came in contact with her.  Two of my fondest memories are that I always joked with her if I missed calling to wish her a happy birthday on June 30th.  I would call her on July 1st and tell her I wasn't late because "you don't know which date your birthday is".  Her birth certificate said she was born on June 31st!!  This always made both of us laugh.  Another time I remember is when she was willing to help with a cash down payment on the house down the street from her and uncle, which had come up for auction.  Blair and I hadn't sold our house yet and we needed cash to offer at the sheriff's sale.  Auntie and Uncle Brother offered to loan us the money.  What is even more mind-blowing about this is that Auntie picked up the money and drove to Newark to pick me up at the train station from work.  She got out and hopped into the passenger side and said, "you drive".  She had that manual transmission VW which although I knew how to drive a "stick" - I wasn't that good!  I drove from Newark to Somerville in 35 minutes!  To this day I don't know how I drove that car and how we made it in time for the sale.  But, we did - laughing the whole way!  Unfortunately, we didn't win the auction.  But, it is an amazing memory, among so many, of our time together.

I will truly miss you Auntie, but I know God met you at the gates and welcomed you home.  I hope to see you there.  Rest in Peace.

Love, Sherri
