Terry Curtis Hill was born in Follansbee, West Virginia, on November 30, 1933.  He was the son of Curtis and Hilda (Terry) Hill.  At an early age, he moved to Alliance, Ohio, and then to Kent where he attended Central Grade School and Kent Roosevelt High School.  At Kent Roosevelt, he was a four-year letterman in football, basketball, and baseball, as well as a three-year letterman in golf.  He demonstrated his strength in leadership as President of the Kent Y Team Club Honor Society and graduated in 1951.  He attended Kent State University and graduated in 1955 with a business degree in accounting.  He was also a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity.  He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1955 and was a graduate of the Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island and the Mine Warfare School in Yorktown, Virginia.  He joined the crew of the USS Peacock in 1955 and was stationed in Sasebo, Japan, through 1958.  He was an engineering and executive officer until he was honorably discharged in 1959.

On June 18, 1960, Terry married the love of his life, Susan Simon, and they had two children, Gregory (Ellen) and Christine (Scott Satchwell). He had four grandchildren Ryan, Emy, Jeffrey and Cassy.  He is preceded in death by his brother, Kenny, and his sister, Judy (Habracken).  He began his professional career at Jack & Hines in Bedford, Ohio, and continued his success at Ernst & Ernst from 1961 - 1964.  He passed the CPA exam and became a certified public accountant in 1962.  He joined Morse Controls in 1964 and earned recognition as the company’s comptroller and treasurer.  In 1970, Terry continued his successful career at Mohawk Rubber Company (later known as Yokohama Rubber Company) as a comptroller.  From comptroller, he was promoted to vice president, senior vice president, and chief executive officer of this Fortune 500 company.  He worked at Mohawk until his retirement in 1989.

Terry was a family man and always put his wife and kids’ needs before his own.  He was an incredible grandfather to his four grandkids and was remarkable at woodworking.  He was also an avid golfer. He leaves behind a family that knows one thing for sure- There wasn’t a better husband, father, or papa anywhere on this earth than Terry Hill.
A celebration of Terry’s life will be held in The Chapel at Prince of Peace Catholic Church 4600 Preserve Pkwy, Hoover, AL 35226 this Saturday, Oct 16,2021 at 12:30pm.
