This memorial website was created in memory of Dr. Terry. "Shrek" Nalian.

Terry has been a motivational speaker and evangelist for 30 years. He and his wife along with their children have labored together for the last 20 years in their charity work. Dr. T.A. Nalian has a bachelors, master, and earned doctorate degree. His work included preaching the word of God, teaching, conducting school assemblies, conducting church programs, lecturing, motivational speaking, feeding the hungry and providing for the poor. The scope of his work is nationwide. Dr. Nalian was also an author, athlete, songwriter, musician and poet. The greatest joy in his life were his family with whom he had immeasurable love. The most important thing to Terry was SOULS, SOULS, SOULS!

The background music you hear is some of Terry's work.
Track 1: God Made You - the instrumental version of a children’s song written for his daughter, Autumn, when she was a baby and passed along to his children and now his grandchildren.

Track 2: Wretch Like Me - Foundation Twelve That's him you hear playing on the drums. Vocals by his good friend Phil Campbell.

Track 3: Gospel Medley Scratch Track - written and performed by Terry. He was not the biggest fan of his voice, but there is something very special about it on this track

I'm lighting a virtual candle in your honor, Dad. It seems silly, but I'm glad to be able to honor you in whatever way I can, even if it is "lighting" a non-existent candle on the internet. I chose the candle image because that's what I want to remember is the light. The light of Jesus, the way you could light up a room with your huge personality, the light in your eyes as you watched a Marvel movie or you made an obnoxious joke, the light I would see when one of your children did something that made you proud and the soft light that would pour out of you when tears would fall from your eyes as we would talk about the things of God. There were dark times and dark moments I don't want to forget, because those things were real and a part of the story but it's the light I cling too. Love you forever. I hope you knew/know how much you were and will always be loved.

His Life

Early Life

April 15, 2022
This beautiful soul wasn’t always known by the name “Shrek”, believe it or not. He was born to Eva and Albert Nalian on February 19, 1962 as Terry Adam Nalian. Terry didn’t have the easiest home life, details which he documented in his book, “The Secrets of Suffering.”

He struggled throughout his educational career as a child, never seeing the inside of a typical classroom. He was enrolled in special education from first grade until 11th grade (when he decided to stop attending school.)
In fact, it is even documented in his file that he gave up easily and did not excel at reading or writing. The school report states if he was to be successful in life, he must be taught to use his body as he would never be able to use his mind.
But God had different plans. If you knew Terry, you know that all to well. At the age of 12 Terry met Jesus thanks to neighborhood friends taking him to church. It was that relationship with Christ that would change the trajectory of his life.

From Rock Band to Bible College

April 15, 2022
Music was one of Terry’s passions. All the songs playing on this page were a part of Terry’s musical career. His files from school even highlighted his love of music as one of the only motivations for him. His preferred instrument of choice? The drums of course! Dropping out of school left plenty of time for his musical outlet. But God had different plans for that.

At the age of 19 Terry felt led to leave his rock band “Bad Habit” and answer God’s call to preach. He obtained his GED and went to Bible college. The story goes that he took off his one green tennis shoe and one red tennis shoe, removed the dog collar he wore around his neck and cut his shoulder length hair so that it didn’t touch his ears to attend Midwestern Bible College.

Ministry: In the Beginning Part 1

After attending a youth conference in the early 1990's where Terry saw students sleeping, passing notes, and making jokes during the speaker's presentation, he felt there had to be a way to capture the students' attention while giving them the message of Jesus Christ. As he was travelling back home from out of town, Terry pulled his vehicle over and prayed about what he saw. Out of this prayer, Powerlifting for Christ was born. When Terry worked as the general manager at a fitness center in Rochester Hills, Michigan, the owner would let him borrow gym equipment and go from church to church lifting large amounts of weight to demonstrate how God can lift our burdens and other spiritual truths. This captivated the audience's attention. When Terry's six-month-old son died in 1999, he felt the call to go into full-time ministry. A group of men formed a board to support Terry and his vision. Terry quit his job as general manager and with the board's help, STAND Ministries was created: Striving Together Accomplishing Nurturing Discipleship.
