Thelma was born in Wilburton, Oklahoma on March 18,1928 to Martin and Donnie Langford. She grew up in Corpus Christi, Texas where she met her husband, Harry Hoy, and later moved to El Paso,Texas. Thelma and Harry owned Hoy's Club/Restaurant, and Hoy's Stables on Montana Ave in El Paso for many years. She had a love for the outdoors, singing, and dancing. She loved flowers, and always wore a smile. She would light up when she saw her family and friends. Thelma had a great love for her family, and was warm and caring, and will live in a special place in the hearts of her children. Harry predeceased Thelma. She is survived by her 3 of 4 children, Debra Louise Hoy Barnes, Rhonda Elizabeth Hoy Scott, and Ronald Evans Hoy, and Scott Thomas Hoy deceased in 1996; her son in law Michael Scott, Valera Knight, Gerald Brady, and grandchildren,Scotty Doug, William, Trey, David, Chase, Cody, Chance,Trey Jr., Christian, and Ryan, and many nieces, and nephews. "Thelma Hoy was a special lady I knew from Hoy's Club which I often patronized back in the 1950's-1960's. Hoy's booked many now-legendary country-singers/bands, and as a local talent, I got to share the mike with some of them. Thelma was always a good listener, especially when tending bar on lazy Sunday afternoons. She also knew how to make a delicious hamburger without any shrinkage of the patty which exceeded the circumference of the bun. In 1964 during my Army enlistment, my unit bivouacked in the desert across the Carlsbad Hwy from Hoy's Club. After taps one night, as the country music playing on the speakers in Hoy's parking lot permeated my mummy-bag and reached my ears, I awakened a couple of my buddies and led our small recon group across the darkened desert landscape to Hoy's Club. At first Thelma was taken back by the little sandy group of fatigue-dressed invaders, but upon recognizing me, welcomed us and and filled our orders for draft beer. After being refreshed, we made it back through the darkness to our unit, never having been missed; mission accomplished. RIP Thelma Hoy. Indeed you will not be forgotten."
