This memorial website was created in memory of our loved one, Theogene Lee, who was born on December 11, 1931 and passed away on March 21, 2019. Although we will miss him so much, his legacy of love and generosity will live on forever.

Theogene Lee is predeceased by his mother, Elaine D. Lee; and his father, Leo Lee.

Theogene Lee is lovingly remembered by his sister, Juanita Israel; his sister, Dorothy Buller; his brother, Paul Lee; his brother, Joseph Edward “Ed” Lee; and numerous nieces and nephews; his close extended family, Glenn “Chip” Gardner (Jennifer Gardner and children, Glenn “Parker” Gardner); his close extended family, Crystal Gertrude Gardner-Phillips (James Phillips and children, Reese Gertrude Phillips and Hudson Gardner Phillips); and his close extended family, Glenn & Sharon Gardner.

Lee was born in Opelousas, Louisiana on December 11, 1931.  He joined the military in 1950, serving in the U.S. Army earning the rank of Corporal during the height of the Korean War.  He spent 6 months in Korea serving in the 2nd Infantry, Indianhead Division and was responsible for anti-aircraft artillery. He earned the Korean Service Medal with a Bronze Service Star. As the only person in his division who could speak another language, he also served as a liaison/French Interpreter with the Allied French Units.  After serving 3 years in active military, he joined the Navy Civil Service as an engineer where he continued working for 23 years. Lee then continued his career as an engineer with the Hilton New Orleans Riverside Hotel where he was recognized as an Honorary Lifetime Employee for his loyalty and professional accomplishments. He was happy with his career as an engineer and said that if he could do it all again, he would be an engineer again.

Lee enjoyed spending his free time with the ones he loved. He took many trips to visit his family members in his hometown and other parts of Louisiana. When in New Orleans/Metairie, he enjoyed quality time over a nice meal with friends and loved ones.  He also loved an occasional Caribbean cruise. Known for his incredible generosity and selflessness, he was always looking for ways to brighten others’ days. He will be missed for his fun sense of humor, love of animals and children, and charismatic personality.

The celebration of Theogene Lee’s life will be held at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home located at 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, LA 70124 on Thursday, March 28, 2019.  Visitation will be held at 10 AM and services will be held at 11 AM.  Burial with Military Funeral Honors and Reception to follow.

“Theogene Lee”
“Uncle Lee” is what he was fondly called,
First by our children and later by us all.
He was a kind, funny and generous man
Who loved our family as much as one can.
Uncle Lee always wanted to be helpful with any special project or quick repair,
So we knew we could always count on him to be there.
He loved to take Chip and Crystal on vacations too,
First to Disney World and later the Caribbean blue.
Because our family was truly blessed to enjoy Uncle Lee's friendship for so many years,
It is of little wonder that we now feel sorrow and like shedding a lot of tears.
Even though we know Uncle Lee led an exciting full life of eight-seven years,
Including being in the Korean War where his valor earned him a Bronze Star,
Theogene will still be greatly missed by all who know him both near and far.
Uncle Lee was always there for us,
And he hardly ever made a fuss;
Even when his health started to fade away,
He tried to keep his spirit up every day.
As we now celebrate your life with your body now being laid to rest,
We know you are now enjoying Heaven and loved ones who are already there to now love you the best.
Until it our time to once again be with you
In glorious Heaven where we will never feel blue,
We will cherish our memories of great times with you!
So for now, farewell to our wonderful Uncle Lee
Whom we love and know that one day we will again see.
Love,
Glenn Gardner and your whole Gardner Family

I had the great pleasure of knowing Theogene Lee for around 40 years. He not only became one of our family’s best friends, but also became an unofficial relative fondly known by all of us as “Uncle Lee.” His warm, kind, loving and generous nature made him very easy to also love and respect and his fun sense of humor made his company so enjoyable at all our family events through these many years. At Thanksgiving and Christmas Uncle Lee & I always enjoyed my spiked egg nog too! Uncle Lee even took Chip and Crystal on wonderful vacations with him. He will be greatly missed by all of our Gardner family. Knowing how much Uncle Lee cared for us, I would not be surprised if he does not ask God if he may become one of our best Guardian Angels to watch over our family still here in Earth until we meet again! Farewell my dear friend until we meet again. Love, Glenn
