Theresa M. Howard

Norwich – Theresa M. Howard,91, of Norwich died Tuesday (Feb. 26, 2019) at Hartford Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 15th at the Ames Cemetery in Lisbon. A reception will immediately follow at the AmercInn, 375 Voluntown Rd, Griswold, CT

Mrs. Howard was born Oct. 22, 1927 in Willimantic, a daughter of Marie (Boisvert) Harbec and Stanislas Harbec and Anna (Boisvert) Larsen and Robert Larsen. She married Harvey C. Howard, Jr. (deceased) on June 25, 1955.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Judith A. Romanowski. She is survived by daughters Martha and David McMahon, Warren VT., Ann Marie and Thomas Choma, Canterbury, CT, Denise and Kelly Clatt, Lisbon CT and Janet Howard, Quaker Hill, CT, and ten grandchildren, Robert and Michael Brochu, Jeremy Thornton, Melissa and Bethany McMahon, Gina Mello, Derek and Marcus Clatt, Christian and Matthew Choma. She also had 10 Great-Grandchildren and 7 Great-Great Grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Theresa had two brothers, Pete and Leo Harbec, and a sister, Belle (Harbec) Brodeur.

Theresa was born 2 months premature in Willimantic, CT, at the age of only seven months. She was the first baby placed in the hospital’s new incubator and enjoyed telling people about being so tiny that she “could fit into a shoe box”.She grew up on Vergason Avenue in Norwich, CT.

In her early years, Theresa worked at Federal Paper Board, First National Grocery Store, and Ortronics, Inc.Theresa was a small business owner, running her own ceramic studio in the early 1980’s.

She was later employed at United Family Services for ten years as a Home Health Aide. This brought her great pride and joy and she brought her personal touch to every patient. Every year at Christmas, Theresa always made small gift baskets of baked goods or other items for all her patients. Theresa loved caring for people in her job and throughout her life.

She was also a member of the Newent Congregational Church in Lisbon and a member of the Westerly Yacht Club in Rhode Island for many years. Theresa also volunteered as a member of the U.S. Power Squadron and Mannerchor Club.

Theresa loved the beach and loved swimming. She was full of energy and life up until her last days and enjoyed being called a “hot ticket”.She also loved to see reactions when she told people her true age, as she always looked and acted at least twenty years younger than her actual age.Theresa loved to dance, sing, and smile.She had a kind and loving heart and valued her family and friendships.She touched many lives and will be sadly missed and fondly remembered.

Theresa wanted people to have fun and celebrate her life; she did not want people to be sad.She loved to dance. In honor of her wishes, the family will have a Memorial / Celebration of Life Dance Party on April 13th, from 5:00 – 9:00 PM, at the Jewett City Firehouse located at 105 Hill St., Jewett City, CT.Please join them to celebrate Theresa’s life and share memories.
