Thomas “Tommy” Jackson Godwin, Jr., 78, died September 11,
2020, surrounded by his family at his home in Pelham, AL.
Tommy graduated from Woodlawn High School and attended
The University of Alabama. He spent many years in the
electrical industry as a Master Electrician. He served as
president of the American Subcontractors Association from
1989-1990 and president of the Subcontractors Association
of Alabama. He was Project Manager at Marathon Electrical
Contractors and retired in March 2014.
Tommy was highly respected in the construction industry,
well known for his dedication to the trade and his keen sense
of humor. He always dressed for success, regularly wearing
khakis, a button up shirt and loafers while working on
construction sites and when he was working in his own yard.
Tommy was an avid Bama Fan who loved attending football
games and tailgating alongside family and friends.
He had a passion for Corvettes, tools and pools. He took pride
in his ability to build or repair anything, no matter the
challenge.
Tommy is lovingly remembered by his wife Carol, son Shannon
(Denise), daughter Debra, stepsons Lance Black and Mark
Vines (Heather), grandchildren, Phillip (Kelly), Amanda, Ryan
eight step grandchildren and two great grandchildren, Jackson
and Chloe.
Tommy is preceded in death by his father Thomas J. Godwin,
Sr., mother Frances Godwin McDonald and son Thomas “Jack”
Godwin III.
The family has planned a private memorial service.
Over the years, Tommy was a mentor to numerous people and
loved to see others succeed. An electrical apprentice
scholarship fund is being established in his honor.
