Obituary:

Thomas Joseph Kenealy died from heart complications in Port St. Lucie, Florida on November 1, 2022. He was 78 years old. His family and friends feel this loss tremendously.

Tom’s charisma could be felt by anyone who knew him. He was an incredible storyteller, known for his humor, and love of life. Tom was always seeking an energetic conversation with anyone who crossed his path: an old friend or a new one. He had a vibrant life filled with hard work and even more fun. A seasoned boater, Tom lived his life on the water as much as possible. Whether ocean fishing with a crew, anchoring on the Hudson River with friends, or cocktails on the dock, being on the water was always his second home. Tom was a member of the Tarrytown Boat Club for many years, and ultimately served as Commodore.

Tom was born on Christmas Day in 1943 in Yonkers, New York to the late Alice and Joseph Kenealy. On his first birthday, Tom lost his father in World War II. Raised in Yonkers, New York Tom attended Catholic High School, and lona College. He then served in the Air Force at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California.

With much grit and drive Tom began a career in corporate wholesale floor covering. With great momentum he quickly rose up as the Executive Vice President of Aldon Industries. He then branched out on his own and created TJK Carpet: a leading wholesaler in the tri-state area for many years. With continued entrepreunerial spirit, he then successfully pursued real estate investment opportunities.

Tom married Diane Kenealy in 1978 and enjoyed the good life in Westchester County, New York. From there he built a home in Florida where he enjoyed his retirement. He is survived by Diane and their daughter, Nicole Kenealy James.

Tom is also survived by his three children Henry Kenealy, Jean Kenealy LaMere, Thomas Kenealy Jr., and a total of seven grandchildren.

Burial services will be done privately.  Family will gather to celebrate Tom’s life at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, Diane and the family welcome your personal notes and photos with memories of Tom in happy times.

I’ve known Tom for probably 46 years and his greatest character trait was he loved to make people laugh. He was fearless and any time you questioned him about his actions he would question right back, “why? what do you thinks gonna happen?” Like the day he taught me how to drive a car, and it was my 1st time behind the wheel and he took me on the parkway but I was only going 30mph and he said “I think you gotta go a little faster” . By the way, I’m a good driver so far, knock on wood! There was a time I was asked to make a cake for Diane’s birthday and he wanted a really Big cake, so we used 4 mixes and the cake was sooo big and sooo heavy ! After we got it out of the oven to cool on the counter, the dog jumped up and ate it, not all of it and we were able to piece it back together. Being that it was so big no one noticed how lumpy it was . I remember many Sunday dinners enjoyed at my mom’s , fighting over the mashed potatoes! He was a character! Always Instigating all who were present . He really loved being around people and loved watching TV and movies such as the Rocky movies! I can hear him call “Adriane” I did it! “ I’m sad to loose him and hope he’s with all the others who have gone before him and they are all together and at peace!

Many years ago we met Tom and Diane at Shinnecock marina on Long Island. Our boats were moored side by side and we became great friends.
We fished, laughed a lot, and enjoyed our escapades together.
Tom's stories will last in our memories forever.
If ever we needed help we could always count on Tom.
My friend, you will be dearly missed.
Lovingly,
Uwe and Terri

Remembering our good friend Tom.
His rendition of “My Way” at every opportunity speaks of “Tom the man”who certainly did live life to the full, His Way!!
We will never listen to Elvis singing “The Wonder Of You” without a tear in our eyes.
We will Love and Miss you forever Tom, even the late night FaceTime Calls.
Your English buddies Brian and Margaret . R.I.P.

I remember first meeting Tom. How he loved our family, and enjoyed celebrating any occasion. He certainly could tell stories and was always there to help one of us in need. And he did!
I’m grateful to have had you in my life and shared so much. I did love when you would sing. “ I’ll do it my way.” God Bless and Rest In Peace
