Laverne and family sorry to hear about Tommy passing. Our prayers and thoughts are with you and your family , our deepest sympathy. Martin and Pat Jistel
I worked with Tommy for many years on the railroad. He was one of my favorite conductors. I am truly saddened about his passing. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
Thomas M. Edwards passed away June 8, 2022. He was born September 3, 1942 in San Antonio, TX, the son of John Edwards and Florence (Bonner) Hill. He will be remembered and cherished by those whom he loved most, his beloved wife of 55 years, Laverne Edwards, daughter Leslie Collins (Glen Collins), son Toby Edwards (Beth Edwards), son Jon Edwards (Mandy Edwards), granddaughter Lindsey Collins, grandson Benjamin Collins, grandson Cade Edwards, grandson Michael Edwards, and parrot Fred. He is survived by two brothers John Edwards and Bill Hill. He is proceeded in death by his parents, sisters Janie Midgett and Lana Morrow, and his great Aunt and Uncle, Grace and Arthur Deats.
He spent most of his childhood on a ranch in West Texas and a farm in Arkansas. Thomas graduated high school as the King of Kermit High. Following graduation, he attended Texas A & M University to study accounting. He then served in Vietnam with the 46 th Engineer Battalion. After the war he married Laverne Grube and settled in Bastrop County to raise their family. He worked for 42 years for the Union Pacific Railroad as a conductor.
One of his greatest accomplishments was building a house from the ground up for his family along the Colorado River, where he loved fishing and spending time on the river. He was a lifelong learner who could almost always be found with a book in hand and passed on his love of learning to others. He instilled a sense of hard work and humor to his children and grandchildren.
He will be remembered by many that he loved as “Pappaw” and spent every moment he could surrounded by his grandchildren. Thomas lived a full life surrounded by family and those he loved. Throughout his life he enjoyed helping others and being there for his family. He was a generous man with a truly caring heart. He will be deeply missed.
