Remembering is never sufficient. It implies a special moments in life to say what you want to say. Losing someone close is an event that is never forgotten; it persists as long as one has the ability, mental and otherwise to keep the lost one as part of his being.I lost Tom and his sister, my wife Grace and I still think of the treasures I lost. Living without them is living alone.

ٌTom was Tom, the energy package, the creative mind, his inability to rest, his unbelievable interest in testing things, and his sudden transformation into a man, like you and me, interested in mundane issues. He used to visit us in Beirut, a city he liked, with family taking care of him. Late one night, we heard his loud, angry words, and we got out of bed expecting the worse, we found him in a terrible mood, and asked about his problem; he said he opened the fridge, found halawah (halva?), and ate some. Then he opened a drawer in the fridge and found some radishes and ate some and enjoyed what he ate, but soon his stomach complained. Grace was taken aback but asked him why he was shouting at her as he ate what he chose; he said: why didn't you tell me that Halawa and radishes are not good for you? End

His ideas influenced each of my works.

I was able to find the photos 2001 ISAHP in Switzerland. As I wrote, it was a gala dinner, they played Alphorn (Alpine horn). After such a big enstrument everybody was quite astonished when you started playing a tiny violin! It was a pleasant surprise. You were so good playing violin! You played alphorn as well. I remember the first time I contacted you and you responded generously to a young unknown entrepreneur who was inviting you to a conference. You and your beloved wife attended the First International Conference of Industrial Engineering Association in Iran virtually in 2001! We had to bring a dish to the event! I just remembered 2001 ISAHP in Switzerland. I think that was the first time I met Barbara. I remember during, I think, it was a gala dinner, they played Alphorn (Alpine horn). One of my best memory with you was when my team hosted you and the AHP family as the ISAHP 2003 organizer in Bali. We had a special time spent at Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park where we were greeted by a Balinese welcoming dance, watched sunset at the location of the still in progress statue (121 m tall when finished), enjoyed a private kecak dance show, and ended the evening with a friendly and fun gala dinner. It is interesting to notice that ISAHP 2003 was in August, and the Park was also finished in August 15 years later. Indonesia Independence Day was in August as well Thank you for giving me the opportunity for such a wonderful memory.

after these few years I cannot still find the right words to say how much I miss you as a friend and mentor.

On December 17th 1996, guerrilla members took several hundred hostages in Peru, my native country. The next morning, I casually mentioned to Tom when I met him in the corridor at Pitt that the president of Peru would probably welcome the assistance of a decision-making methodology such as the one he taught. He replied: “You are right, let’s work on this.” I knew Tom very little at the time except for having our offices almost in front of each other. I argued “I am a lecturer on IT, I don’t know your method!” He told me “You are right. Here is my book, read it and let’s meet tomorrow at 9am to start working on how to resolve this conflict.” He handed me the book and left. Unknowingly, I had been recruited into the AHP/ANP family for the next 25 years! Tom, you changed my life! Thank you!

Now, at this time that I am on my way to USA again, it is very very painful to know that you are not there anymore but you are in our thoughts, works, words, you never will be forgotten, my mail often alerts me to say that "Thomas L. Saaty has new citation", you will be living even after us...
