Friends and A Hospice Nurse~Bonus!
About 2 years ago or so Tom got to the point that he was unable to be left alone. We were thinking about hiring help or placing him in Adult day care. When an Angel came to our rescue. Our friend Roxanne moved in with us. She worked nights and Sharon and I days. She gave him tasked to do during the day and made sure he ate and took his meds. Being a Hospice nurse she is very experienced in Alzheimer patients. We also had our dear friend Greg Copeland come over 2 or 3 times weekly and involve Tom in some home improvements. Tom's favorite things to do! Even though Tom struggled to use his favorite tools and his hands Greg had all the patients in the world for his longtime friend.
Soon Tom needed someone to care for him day and night as he started to wander and leave the house. We then moved him into an assisted living Feb 2018. Karin and Greg visited often.
In his final month March 2019 we hired hospice and requested Roxanne to be his Hospice advocate. She did an amazing job above and beyond her duties. She made sure Tom was very comfortable and well taken care of. It was really nice to have her because Tom knew our longtime friend.
I can't say enough about our friends. Friends are my family for sure!
