Career

March 6, 2015

While attending St. Mary’s College Tim worked for United Airlines as Station Agent at the Oakland Airport. Later, after graduation and marriage, Tim and Ellen moved to Minneapolis,MN where he became Cargo Sales Representative. Thereafter he moved through a variety of management positions for United in Denver and Chicago, moving four times. These included Strategic Planning, Denver Cargo Management, Chicago Sales Management, and Marketing Management where Tim was instrumental in the launch of the first Mileage Plus Program. During his 23 years at United he managed to earn an MBA degree at the University of Colorado, which required commuting from Chicago for the last semester. Also during these years Tim and Ellen celebrated the arrival of four sons. Then Tim and family moved to Bellevue, WA to accept a senior management position for Westin Hotels in Marketing and Revenue Management where he remained for ten years.

As the boys were completing college (Patrick and Peter at Notre Dame; Matthew at Santa Clara; and Tim at Harvard) Tim and Ellen continued their nomadic lifestyle moving where his career continued. After leaving Westin Tim began consulting assignments for Kimpton Hotels which included many trips to his old stomping grounds - the Bay Area. Later the empty nesters moved to Del Ray Beach, FL where they enjoyed warm weather while working for My Travel USA in Marketing and Distribution then Kerzner Resorts in Revenue Management.

Tim then took some time off to teach MBA Marketing at Seattle University and the University of Washington.

The next move took them straight to the glitter and glitz of Las Vegas, NV, as Tim took a Revenue Management position at MGM Mirage Corporation. He always embraced technology, and in his next job,  became an consultant  for a software program that analyzed trends and offered room price upgrades.  He worked for this company for 5 years after leaving MGM Mirage (again commuting to the Bay Area often).

Tim and Ellen retired in 2013, and moved to nearby Phoenix, AZ, where their son lives.

Family Man

March 6, 2015

Ellen and Tim wasted no time starting a family and eventually had 4 boys (Patrick, Peter, Matthew, and Timothy).  His family was always the highest priority in his life. They eventually settled in Arlington Heights, IL where Tim worked for United Airlines.  He believed in Catholic education, and at great expense he sent his children to Catholic Elementary, High School, and College. The kids remember an idyllic childhood in Chicago with Ellen shuttling them around to sports events and activities. And, Dad taking them to Indian Guide camp outs for the Cheyenne tribe. The kids also enjoyed many family trips to Hawaii, including a surprise trip there during the throes of a brutally cold Chicago winter.

The family moved to Seattle in 1988 as Tim accepted a position from Westin Hotels and Resorts. He was always very supportive of the kids athletics, often coaching their teams. He was in the stands for every basketball game for all the boys, even keeping the official scorebook many times.

Marriage

March 6, 2015

During his college years, Tim met Ellen at a backyard party given by a mutual friend. Their courtship lasted through college, and when Tim received a job offer to work for United Airlines in Minnesota (a promotion from working on the ramp at OAK airport), he popped the question.  On May 31st, 1969, they were married at St. Leo church and began their 45 year life together.

Gaels

Tim followed in the footsteps of his older brother Larry, and went to St. Mary's College in Moraga, CA. There he met many more lifelong friends. He helped pay for his education by working weekends and nights at Joe Moore's Service Station in Berkeley, and later on as a Station Agent at Oakland Airport for United Airlines. At St. Mary's, Tim enjoyed the interaction with the Christian Brothers professors, and attending sports events. He majored in Economics, and graduated in 1967. For the rest of his life, Tim was an enthusiastic supporter of St Mary's College, and Gael athletics, (even when his son played basketball for their rival Santa Clara).
