Once again the day is upon us
A chance to remember the one who nursed us
Not because you need to hear it,
But more to do with our need to show it.

You are the unsung hero, who toiled for us,
You gave up your dreams, on us to focus.
The fact remains, it, you never did mention,
But that we are here; is due to your attention.

We laughed, we cried, we ran, we fell,
And when we were ill, on your knees you fell,
Worrying and praying that we get well
All these and more, only you can retell.

Appreciation is what this is about,
For all those times you went without.
To you, our mother, without a doubt,
We may never show it, but you DO have clout.

This is our way, of remembering you today,
By doing all we can so you can say,
That all you did for us both night and day,
The worry, the tears and times you did pray,
In keeping us safe and out of harms way.

All of those things have not been a waste.

You are important and you are priceless
And we want you to know that we are glad to have had you with us!

Happy birthday mum.

You live on in our hearts and minds.

The news of your demise came to me as a rude shock. Mummy you were a woman of inestimable value. Your cheerful disposition is second to none. Though you may be physically gone but your memories live on. May God grant Daddy and everyone of us the fortitude to bear this loss. Continue to rest in the bosom our Lord till we meet to part no more.

Indeed mummy will be forever missed. It is hard not to tear up every time you are remembered. You were so loving, kind and ever smiling. All these you and dad extended to my family and I. Rest on mum. Till we meet to part no more.

May God continue to console us.

This still upsets me as she was like a mother to me, kind when I needed it and strict when I needed it too (which was more often than not); she is with our father now and I believe we will all meet again in time.

My heart goes out to all the Usikalu's <3

You left this wicked world,
to be with the Almighty God.
On the 10th of May 2021,
exactly 20years ago,
we celebrated together the happiest day of my life.
I will miss you dearly.
Rest in peace.

I went to your house in Port Harcourt only once, I met you only once. I kept calling your phone to help me locate the house, you didn't make me feel foolish for the several calls, or the inability to grasp simple geographical directions.
I met you only once but it was enough to leave an indelible mark. I still remember the wisdom tips you dished out from having raised boys to men, I am putting them to good use. I kept planning another visit, this time with my men, alas, it shall now be on the other side of heaven.
Rest on ma, till we meet at the saviour's feet, then I shall give you specifics of the fruits of your wisdom tips.
My men and I salute you.
Adieu ma, adieu!!!!

I call her mummy because she raised my dad. My dad lived with her in his formative years and helped raised her kids while they were young hence we became family. I recall my vacation with her in PH. The fun we had and it felt like I had known her my whole life. Then I realized what it must have been like for my dad. I miss you and I hope you are mightily rewarded by our father in heaven for always opening your doors and heart to God's children and sharing your blessings with all. May God grant your loved ones the fortitude to bear the loss of your physical presence.

Thank you, Mummy Usikalu.

Thank you for fighting my corner.

Thank you for loving me like your own flesh and blood.

Thank you for throwing your arms wide open to welcome me into this beautiful family, that you built with so much love and care.

You fought a good fight and now you have finished your race. I know there is rejoicing in heaven as God welcomes you Home, His dearly beloved daughter.

Rest well, Mummy. You deserve your rest.

Till we meet again at the feet of Jesus.

I love you,
Oluwatunmise

My lovely Aunty, we will always remember love and kindness and forthrightness. I haven't forgotten how first introduced me to scotch eggs several decades ago when I was a little child, and how fondly I always expect your visits with my Uncle Mich. And your genuine love for us all. You will be missed, but trust you are already having a blast with Christ Jesus and all the saints in heaven. Sleep on sweet Aunt Tolly.

Her Life

MRS TOLORUNLOJU OSASEBO ARHUNMWUNDE USIKALU (NEE OSUNDE)

May 29, 2021
By divine intervention, Tolorunloju Osasebo Arhunmwunde Osunde was born as the fourth child of her mother, Mrs Alice Osunde (nee Okundia), to Mr Zaccheus Osunde, both of whom are of Edo heritage, within a polygamous family.

Her name “TOLORUNLOJU” expressed the Omnipotence of God above any other power without which she would not have been born alive. She was the first surviving female child of the family unit. It is therefore understandable that she was her father's little girl. For many young children, this would have made them spoilt but not for Tolorunloju. She led a good and disciplined life, as an example for her junior ones.

She had her primary education at Ago Ijaiye Methodist Primary School, Ebute Metta, Lagos. The school was about five minutes walking distance from their family home at Number 44 Apapa Road. She carried herself well, earning and deserving of respect. With her wit, size, strength and boldness she could always stand up for herself and others against any bullies.

She had her Secondary Education at Egbado High School, Igbogila in Yewa North Local Government, Ogun State where she obtained her Secondary School Certificate.

She got employed as an Administration Officer in 1971 in the Nigerian Agip Oil Company, along Awolowo Road, Victoria Island, Lagos. She later got transferred to the Port Harcourt office where she eventually retired in 1996 after many meritorious years of Service to the Company.

Our perfect God ordered Abiona's employment in the same company, in 1972. He remarks that it was not difficult to discern that she was to be the bone of his bone and flesh of his flesh. They got married on 30th December 1972. The marriage was blessed with three beautiful girls and two handsome boys. Unfortunately, the eldest girl went to be with the Lord at age twelve. She was proud of her surviving children, who are doing well in their individually chosen fields.

She was a loving, nurturing, kind and supportive mother to both her biological children and several others who crossed her path. She let anyone with worries in - no matter how substantial, into her home and heart. She gave the same nurturing advise to everyone, biological and otherwise and made everyone feel just as loved, valid and welcome in her home.

She was very active in church activities, serving in different departments, using her skills, resources, time and gifts for the advancement of spiritual and numerical growth amongst members and winning new converts. One area she had great success was in the words of Apostle Paul to his spiritual son Titus as recorded in Titus 2:3-5

“Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.”

In following these instructions, she mentored, counselled, advised, guided and supported younger women, particularly those in her husband's Church Group. She would advocate to younger parents the importance of finding creative ways to correct children in their formative years within the context of a loving home. The impact of these principles was evident in the gratitude and testimonials received from many parents.

She was very hard working throughout her lifetime. Following retirement, she established a poultry farm and managed successful beauty salons amongst many other smaller business ventures. She was humble and never thought anything was beneath her.

As a wife of a manager in an oil company, she did not consider it discreditable to commercially sell ice blocks, despite societal pressure and opinions.

She was very open to share her lived experiences as useful lessons and admonitions to others. Jointly with her husband, she also quietly ran informal counselling sessions for couples who were having marital challenges.

We join her to thank God for helping her not to bury her talents but to have them multiplied.

We are grateful to God for giving us such a phenomenal wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Surely, she will be missed by us all and in His ministry.

Beautiful Friend

May 30, 2021
Lovely Tolly was a wonderful friend. I was teaching at the Norwegian International School in the mornings, even though we lived a long distance away. Tolly invited me to come to her house at lunchtime and have a short sleep before going on to give private lessons to families living nearby. She was a dear sister to me at a time when many others felt awkward about befriending someone in my position. She is now with her Lord in glory. My heart goes out to her family, may God bless and comfort you.

Heart of Gold

May 30, 2021
Years back, high school was coming to an end. In a twist of fate, pandemonium  brought me to your doorstep. You welcomed me like your own. You sheltered me like my mother. You fed me. You comforted me and reassured me all would be well. I remember your laughter. It was genuine. A few years back when we spoke you reminded me of a story I shared with you. Mummy, you had a heart of Gold. Thank you for making the world a better place than you met it. Thank you for the lives you so positively touched.

Rest on in the bossom of our Lord
Till we meet again at Jesus' feet.

Mrs Tolorunloju Usikalu was a darling, ever cheerful friend, iyawo wa and sister-in the Lord. We were  close family friends.
She was a very generous lady. There was nothing too much by her way of life to give or to entertain visitors or friends. She was too much. Always smiling and cracking jokes. She was a good Counsellor.
She loved the Lord and never ashamed to proclaim the kingdom of God any time and any place.
She was a soldier for Christ. She came, she saw and she conquered. We missed you but God loved you most. Rest in perfect peace.
