His Life

A Brief Biography

April 15, 2015

Tom was born on April 24,1947 to Irene and Howard Dahl in Bismarck, North Dakota and passed away on Tuesday, April 7 amongst family at the ripe young age of 67 in San Diego, California.

After a move to Fargo ND, Tom graduated from Oak Grove High School in 1965. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1967 and was stationed in the Philippines and Thailand. After returning stateside, he lived in Alaska and subsequently moved to Southern California where his daughter Kristie was born. He would eventually meet and marry Myra to create their very own Brady Bunch!

In 1987, Tom had an opportunity to purchase his own retail business in San Diego. After 9 years of successful entrepreneurship, business began to decline and Tom chose a new career in insurance. Tom was active in choir and helped back stage on Sundays at the Rock. Myra was involved in Hospitality and used her charm to get Tom to attend a Hospitality Ministry picnic with her.

As many of you know, Tom was a true servant and found his calling as Hospitality volunteer shortly after. His commitment to the ministry and his positive attitude led Tom to find a job that he would ultimately do for free - Hospitality Coordinator at the Rock Church. He quickly became one of the most beloved staff members as he extended love to everyone he encountered.

He was well known for his Big Gulp cups on his desk, his drawer full of candy bars, and his listening ear. The Hospitality volunteers also found such joy in being around him and his fighting spirit amidst his battle with cancer.   He was an encouragement to everyone as he honored God and never lost faith throughout the years.

Tom is survived by his wife Myra of nearly 33 years, his daughter Kristie, stepsons Matthew, Travis, and Westly, brothers David, John and wife Sharon, sister Liz, brothers in law Rich and Austin, and sister in law DiAnna, 3 grandchildren Dylan, Sadie and Darby, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Although there is a void here on earth with Tom gone, we rejoice in knowing he is making so many friends in Heaven and his legacy will live on as he touched so many lives.
