It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Tommy E. Batson Jr.,  of Wildwood, NJ, formerly of Balto, MD. On Saturday June 17th at 1:30 am, while residing at Complete Care Hospice in Cape May Court House, NJ and under Jesus' wings, Tommy passed into God's hands.

Tommy was born in Camp Pendleton Marine Corps base in California on Oct. 18, 1953 to Tommy E  Batson Sr, USMC SSGT, Korea, and Jean M. Bartholow Batson. After the passing of his father, Tommy’s mother moved Tommy and his brother James to Balto, MD to be closer to her family.  Tommy was a 1973 graduate of Patterson Senior High School in Balto, MD. He was on the championship Swim & Lacrosse teams. He attended tech school for welding/fabrication. While in Balto he worked at Curtis Bay Shipyard.

Tommy had spent many summers in Wildwood and moved there permanently in 1979. He  worked as a welder for commercial fishing docks and as a dock hand.  Tommy was a friendly man and was willing to help anyone. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, fishing, swimming, playing pool and music. He was an avid concert goer. He also  enjoyed playing his hi-tech stereo and recording the bands that played at Henrys in Wildwood.

Tommy’s welding career caused serious lung issues. He battled with COPD for 18 years. He slowly went down hill the past 3 years. The last 8 months took its toll on him. He suffered a fall at home and went into hospice care the first week of May. He was on a rollercoaster ride up & down like a yoyo. He fell again striking his head and continued to decline until God called him to His house & eased him of his suffering. He was a TROOPER fighting to the end.

Tommy was predeceased by his father, Tommy E Batson, Sr USMC SSGT Korea 1957, his mother Jean M Batson (Bartholow) Wildwood NJ, sister Debbie Jean Batson (Booz, Hudson), Rio Grande,NJ.

Tommy leaves behind his “little brother” James F Batson, Carbondale, PA, formerly of Balto, MD & Wildwood, NJ, James’s wife Doreen Batson, Carbondale, Pa, nephew William C Booz, his wife Morgan Booz, his great nieces Maya & Ruby Booz, all of Jarrettsville, MD,  also many cousins  and second cousins throughout the country.

Per Tommy’s request, he was cremated. He didn’t want a service locally and wanted to be  buried next to his father. His remains are to be buried at the same time of his brothers in the family plot in Redwater, Texas.

Tommy’s brother James would like to thank the staffs of Care Site at Sandman Towers,  Wildwood NJ, Angelic Hospice Care and Complete Care CMCH, NJ.

In Tommy’s words written in 2000 “I always wonder how my life would have been growing up with you pop”. We will be at his side someday. And as Tommy always said “I’ll see you on the  other side”.  REST IN PEACE MY BIG BROTHER!!
