Stairway to Heaven

If tears could build a stairway
And memories a lane
I would walk right up to Heaven
And bring you back again
No farewell words were spoken
No time to say "Goodbye"
You were gone before I knew it
And only God knows why
My heart still aches with sadness
And secret tears still flow
What it meant to love you
No one can ever know
But now I know you want me
To mourn for you no more;
To remember all the happy times
Life still has much more is store
Since you'll never be forgotten
I pledge to you today-
A hollowed place within my heart
Is where you'll always stay

The Deep Blue Sea

Come along, come with me,
Take a dive in the deep blue sea.
Put on your gear, let's explore
All the way to the ocean floor!

See that snail wrapped in curls?
Look! An oyster wearing pearls!
Watch the octopus oh so dark,
But don't you dare to pet the shark!

Dive on down, seaward bound,
Motion in the ocean is all around!
Dive on down, seaward bound,
Motion in the ocean is all around!

Now we're very far below,
The lantern fish are all aglow.
Is that a tiny shock you feel?
You just met an electric eel!

Giant blue whales start to stir,
Bigger than dinosaurs ever were!
Wave good-bye to the squid and sponge,
This is the end of our deep-sea plunge!

Dive on down, seaward bound,
Motion in the ocean is all around!
Dive on down, seaward bound,
Motion in the ocean is all around!

Meish Goldish

I remember how excited Uli got, after I showed him my pictures I took while I was snorkeling. He wanted to see this wonderful world by himself. I taught him how to snorkel and after a while he really liked it. He could see by himself what a wonderful underwater world was waiting for him to explore. And he was so excited to see his first ray in the shallow water, it was almost floating towards him.

Honey, I miss you so much and you left a big big hole in my heart. It hurts so much to be alone. You were my everything, my soulmate, you brightened my day with your presense. Your laugh was so catching. There are so many things I wanted to tell you, but now you're gone. I don't know how to live without you. In loving memory,

Yvonne

In October 2006 a tremendous early snowstorm hit Buffalo, NY. Two feet of heavy snow fell on trees that were still fully in leaf, knocking out electrical power in the area for a full week. For a few days during this unusual event, Ulrich stayed at our house. With his quiet good cheer and wry humor, he seemed to be everywhere, helping us to shovel the heavy snow and clear branches, and washing dishes after meals. In the evenings, we all joked and told stories by candlelight; he quietly befriended our old dog. This is how I really came to know Ulrich.

Yvonne and Baur family, we are so very sorry for your loss. We miss Ulrich very much.

München

Liebe Uli, liebe Familie Baur in München

weißt Du noch, Yvonne, als wir uns im Forum kennenlernten und Du uns von Deinem Uli erzähltest, daß er aus München sei und wie haben wir damals dann gelacht, als sich herausstellte, daß sein Elternhaus und meines in München nur wenige Hausnummern auseinander liegen und ich seine Eltern von früher her vom Sehen kannte;

Wie klein ist doch die Welt, haben wir gesagt, daß sich Menschen mit  ähnlichen Urlaubsinteressen, sich dann über diesen Umweg des Forums wieder treffen, obwohl ich doch selber auch schon viele Jahre aus München weg war;

und unser lustiger Telefonanruf nach Münchern, als Ihr bei Ulis Eltern wart und sein Vater überhaupt nicht wußte,was er mit mir anfangen sollte und Du im Hintergrund sofort wußtest, wer da dran war;

was hast Du immer ganz begeistert von Deinem "spotter" erzählt und daß er bei Autoneigung immer ein wenig ängstlicher war als Du, und dann einen "tiltmeter" ins Auto bekam, damit er erkennen konnte, daß die Neigung doch nicht so gefährlich war;

wir wünschen Dir und seinen Eltern viel Kraft für diese Zeit und wir werden auch immer an ihn denken

The physics department will not be the same without Dr Baur. He was an excellent physicists with a great deal of insight. I will never forget going to his office hours, and asking him about the stacks of papers on his desk.  He informed me that it was his earthquake detector and even with the slightest movement of a stack, he would grab his fermi lab helmet and be the first one out the door.  His sense of humor and kindness will never be forgotten.  He will not be forgotten. Yvonne, I will keep you and Dr Baur in my prayers.
