Vance M. Kelly, 61, of Haverhill, MA passed away on the morning of Friday, October 16, 2020 due to complications from diabetes. Vance was born in Bath, ME on April 9, 1959 to Thomas and Rosalie Kelly, both deceased. He was the oldest of five children. Vance leaves behind his daughter, Paige Kelly Martin, son-in-law, Keith Martin, granddaughter, Colette Martin and son, Logan Kelly. Vance also leaves behind several siblings: brother, Patrick Kelly, sister-in-law Joanne Sayers, brother Daniel Kelly, sister-in-law Sheryl Kelly, sister Kristina Kelly, brother-in-law David Hoyt, and sister Colleen Kelly; and nieces and nephews: Ashley Hoyt, Meghan Kelly, Patrick Kelly, Scott Kelly, Bridget Kelly, and Austin Kelly.
Vance attended Whittier Regional Vocational Technical High School in the Diesel Mechanic program and graduated in 1977. He spent much of his life working as a diesel mechanic, as well as driving trucks, either for himself or various companies. Vance was both a motorcycle and super-modified racing enthusiast, and could occasionally be found driving race cars, himself. He also loved going out for breakfast with family and friends. Vance had a robust sense of humor and collected many funny, and sometimes crazy, stories over the years.
Out of an abundance of caution, the family has chosen to postpone an in-person celebration of life until Spring or Summer of 2021 when it is safer to congregate. When a date for his celebration has been set, the family will post the details on his webpage, as well as on social media.

His Life
October 17, 2020
Vance was born in Bath, ME, as his father, Tom, was stationed at the Brunswick Naval Air Station at the time of his birth. He grew up in Haverhill and went to St. James Elementary School and Whitter Vocational Technical School. As a youth, Vance played hockey and was interested in muscle cars, racing, motorcycles and big trucks.

After high school, Vance quickly made a name for himself as a diesel mechanic and was sought-after by many local trucking companies. He also drove trucks for a number of local oil companies, and at various times, owned his own trucking companies. As an adult, he also took up the hobby of racing super-modified race cars.

Vance was married to Diann Merrick during which time the had their daughter, Paige. Later he was married to Leslie Brown during which time they had their son Logan.

While Vance lived a robust life, he suffered from a number of health conditions, most significantly, diabetes and congestive heart failure. Despite strict protocals due to Covid-19, Vance's immediate family was able to spend time with him in his final days.

"Kelly Green"

October 17, 2020
Back in the early '90's, Vance started a company called Flintstone Materials selling stone, loam and other various materials. He purchased a utility service truck and brought it to the body shop to have it painted. Without presenting any code numbers or swatches, he told them, casually, he wanted it painted Kelly Green (because apparently everyone knows what Kelly Green is).

Later, when Vance returned to the body shop, much to his surprise, he found a bright lime green truck! Vance shouted at the attendant, "I told you I wanted Kelly Green!" (there may have been some expletives in there). Apparently, in the absence of clear guidance, the body shop referred to the code listings for a 1973 Porsche in "Kelly Green" as shown in the attached photo. Vance got a lot of attention with his newly-painted truck!
