Vera Fern Hockaday, 51, a native of Granville County passed away Sunday, September 11, 2016 at the home of her parents.
Vera grew up on a farm where she helped her family tend tobacco. She was a former member of Brassfield Baptist Church and attended Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Lumberton She was a graduate of Peace College and Gardner Webb where she majored in Education. She was a elementary school teacher in Lumberton. She was very musical and loved children. Her faith in God was really strong.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Wednesday, September 14, 2016 in the Eakes Funeral Chapel in Creedmoor by Rev. Drew Grumbles and Rev. Sonny Diggs. Burial will be in Brassfield Baptist Church Cemetery.
Surviving are her parents, Herbert and Veneda Hockaday, two brothers, Johnny M. Hockaday and Pete Hockaday (Shelia) all of Creedmoor, two nieces, Jamie Hockaday (Josh Smith) and Karen Hockaday.
Flowers accepted or memorials may be made to Youth for Christ or to Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 14, 2016 from 12:30-2:00 PM at the Eakes Funeral Home in Creedmoor and at other times at the home.
