Service will be held Friday, September 25, 2020 at Prayer Garden Church of God in Christ (600 Shiloh Springs). Visitation at 11:00am and service to follow at 12:00pm. Mask are required. 

Vera Jean (Wilson) Martin was born November 20, 1932 in Hazard, Kentucky.  She was a twin to Elder Adam Wilson and the only girl amongst seven siblings. Vera departed this life on September 12, 2020 at Hospice of Dayton.  

She was preceded in death by parents, William and Alberta Wilson; siblings, David Hill, James (Arnetta) Wilson, Woodrow Wilson, Elijah Wilson, and William Wilson; husband, Nolen Martin; and four children, Theresa Peavy, Walter Wilson, Ray Martin and son-in-law Jeff Upshaw.

Affectionately known as Mer, she accepted the Lord Jesus Christ at an early age.  She was an active member at Prayer Garden C.O.G.I.C for over 25 years and a current member of Grace Outreach Fellowship.  Vera received a bachelor’s degree from Central State University in 1978.  She was a passionate advocate for welfare rights reform.  She was a member of the Board of Trustees for the Dayton Legal Aid Society and an International Board Member of the Morris Cerullo Ministries.  Vera was an Outreach Volunteer Coordinator for the Wesleyan Community Center and an active member of the Dayton Urban League.  She was a foster parent for many years and a friend to the homeless and anyone in need.

She leaves to cherish her memory two brothers, Elder Adam Wilson and Pastor Charles (Ellarie) Wilson; seven children, Eugene (Susan) Maniece, Van Wilson, Tonya Martin, Tawana (Kenneth) Thomas, Tina Upshaw, Twy Martin, and Thea Anderson; one Aunt, Ordean Clayton, a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

So sorry to hear of Vera Jeans passing....she is truly missed....I used to see her every day for more than 3 years! We shared so many stories...she was a very special, kind and open hearted lady.....we shared the same middle and last name....Vera you will always be in my heart ❤️....God bless you and your family

I believe Tina was the first person I ever heard say Mur' dear (we were 15) she was speaking to her Mom. I was trying to figure out what was going on.. I was so tickled. Love to all

What can I say about this STRONG ! And MIGHTY ! PRAYER ! WARRIOR ! I will say I will TRULY ! MISS you, Mother Martin. I can hear you saying your favorite saying, but let me say it the way I feel you giving your LORD ! And SAVIOR ! YOUR ! PRAISE ! . She has BLESSED ! the LORD EVERY ! TIME ! and at ALL ! TIMES ! and she has ALWAYS ! CONTINUALLY ! carried the LORDS ! PRAISES ! IN her mouth !  OUT ! her mouth and in her life !, and now till death. BUT ! the GOOOOD ! thing is ———- SHE ! STILL ! She was truly a woman of God and will be sorely missed. She would go out if her way to help you if it’s was in her reach. May God continue to comfort and give strength to those who loved her.

Was a great Woman of God. I remember many time needed a ride home from Prayer Garden. She would take me home. I would offer her gas money she would never take it....
