Vertis L. Hopson was born to the late L. C. Johnson Sr. and Georgia Johnson on October 21, 1938 in Estill, Mississippi.On Saturday evening, May 11, 2019 God was looking for a willing soldier and Vertis answered the call.

Vertis accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age.She was baptized at New Hope Baptist Church in Estill Mississippi.After graduating from Simmons High School, she moved to Cincinnati Ohio where met her husband, Henry Hopson.To this union two daughters were born, Margaret Jean and Tracy.

For many years, Vertis was a member of Bethlehem Baptist church where she served under the leadership of Rev. A. H. Johnson.She later joined Tryed Stone New Beginning Church where she served faithfully.At Tryed Stone she served on many auxiliaries including a member of the choir, Kingdom Café, New Members Intake, Keenagers, Focus Group, Mentor, and many more. Her love for serving God was always first and foremost in her life.

Professionally, Vertis worked at Children’s Hospital and Bethlehem Baptist Church and later started her life long career with Internal Revenue Service.After 33 years of federal service, she retired from the Cincinnati Service Center as a Data Conversion Branch Manager.Vertis was always planning ahead, and while working for IRS, she attended Moller Cosmetology school and received her license as a certified Cosmetologist.After retiring from IRS, she opened her own beauty salon - Kris Mal Verlords Hair Palace - which she owned and managed for many years.

Vertis was a great wife, mother, sister, aunt, friend and a loving grandmother. Her grand and great grandchildren were her pride and joy.She loved spending time with them and seldom missed their school events or activities. She was the oldest of 12 siblings who affectionally called her “Jim”.She loved traveling, going on cruises, dressing fashionably, baking, golfing, being a hair stylist, singing for the Lord, and serving God.Vertis was soft spoken, humble, righteous, tender and gentle to all that she met and would never harm a soul.

Vertis leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Henry Hopson; two daughters – Margaret Barnes (Michael) and Tracy Hopson;four grandchildren – Stephen Barnes, Kristin Barnes, Mallory Barnes, and Tarah Cave;four great-grandchildren – Savaya,Samiya, Jurnee, and Daquan; nine siblings – Mamie Byrd (Jesse), Viola Bridges, L.C. Johnson Jr. (Charlotte) Annette Barnes; Ruby Bumpers, Mary McGee(Rudy), Esther Ford (Cedric); Georgia Johnson, Earnest Johnson; two aunts -Magnolia McNeil (Johnnie) and Francis Johnson; two uncles – Lee Andrew Johnson (Melissa) and Roosevelt Johnson Jr.; one sister-in-law - Annie B. Butler; and a host of nieces; nephews; cousins and close friends. 

This memorial website was created in memory of our loved one, Vertis Hopson 80 years old , born on October 21, 1938 and passed away on May 11, 2019. We will remember her forever.
