Sad to hear on 22 November 2023 that Victor had passed since 2021!
May His lovely soul be rested in Jesus name!

We met for the first time in 1994 during the Business Reengineering for a Nigerian commercial bank before he left for his PhD studies.

Upon his return, he supported Mac Atasie's work for the Government of Anambra state and reconnected to explore a few financing transactions.

He did mention that he had some health challenges. I feel pained that he passed.

Colourful & impactful life on this side of eternity.

Brother Victor,
Knowing that you departed without the possibility of a parting message has me feeling sad that I never had the opportunity to have one last candid conversation about life and its "realness" before you left. My heart, however, is glad that you knew the Lord and I am convinced that you are in a GOOD place.
I can no longer look up to you as an inspiration and unofficial mentor but I am encouraged because the reflection of what you have achieved and your legacy will live on through Tobi, Seun and Bola. We will pray and support the family that is still physically with us, remembering how you prayed and blessed so many who could not sufficiently support themselves with your selfless service. Rest well in the Lord's presence till we meet again on the last day. - Emeka Okonya

A Tribute to an Ambassador for Christ, Pastor (Dr) Victor Alaofin Ph.D

A wise, intelligent, calm, gentle, Christ focused, spirit filled gentleman.

I received the news of Victor’s passing with great sadness. Victor loved the Lord. He stood upright with integrity and had a desire for excellence. He also cared for and served the needs of others.

I admired his comprehensive and thorough understanding of the Word, and his brilliant delivery of the Word. Victor was very matter of fact about what is expected of us as Christians and there was no room for compromise.

I bless God for knowing him. He finished his race with great honour and I have no doubt that he is resting in peace in heaven with our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. “Heaven is richer and earth poorer as a result.”

I pray for his precious family, that the Lord continues to wrap his loving arms round them. Bola, Tobi and Seun, please do not let your hearts be troubled, continue to believe in Christ the Author and the Finisher of your faith. He will never leave you nor forsake you. I sincerely pray and hope you find solace in the Word of God and that you are also encouraged by the words of this poem.

“Love Lives On
Those we love remain with us
for love itself lives on,
and cherished memories never fade
because a loved one’s gone.
Those we love can never be
more than a thought apart,
for as long as there is memory,
they’ll live on in the heart.”

The Holy Spirit, the divine comforter, will strengthen you all. He will turn your fears into faith and your sorrows into joy.

My beloved Doctor,

The news of your demise really brought me to tears.

Since our path crossed, it has been a relationship of a boss-subordinate that completely morphed into that of brothers with valued friendship.

You were such a true boss with value for work and humanity. You led in a way that many spoke glowingly about in your absence and you distinguished yourself as a best-in-class manager.

Your memory remains with me for the continued professional, educational and general advice we shared even after we had parted ways from the work place.

May your soul be accepted unto the bossom of your God.

Adieu Doctor!

Classic Vintage Victor. I still remember first meeting him at AC...he pointed out the similarities in our names (I'm Oluwatosin)...I'll always remember that...a colleague I'm meeting for the first time creating an instant bridge. A complete gentleman, sweet of spirit...I remember him in the pool and we'd call him over for some funny stuff or to ask a technical question, and he'd come over and laugh with us...all those gentle memories flooding back...the laughter, the fun...and that was just him, friendly, generous, helpful...we have lost a gem, for sure. May his precious soul rest in peace, and will continue to pray for God to comfort dear Bola and the kids..

Our dear friend and bro,

The news of your demise came as a shock to us, not because we didn’t realize it could happen at some point, but because we had come to appreciate your warm personality and kind heart. A fine gentleman.

Chiedu particularly recalls your willingness to help with translating communications between German and English, and vice versa, during one of the squad’s swimming competitions in Arnsberg, Germany. You were always willing to help and measured.

We can never forget your trademark smile.

For me, you were the perfect family man - supportive of your wife’s dream while encouraging your boys without a fuss. I must say, you and Bola were role model couples to behold.

We prayed for God to heal you; so we were really broken when we received the sad news.

God has taken you to a better place - free of pain, sickness and the distractions of the world. You’ve also planted good seeds that will make the world a better place.

Rest In Peace, bro.

My one time boss who stepped into the role of an egbon and would address me as 'aburo'. So many times I buzzed your line to run ideas by you and you always obliged me.
With ease you connected disparate dots and demystified complex stuff. I learnt from you how to analyse issues, how not to ignore history and patterns, which are repeatable.

You were an exceptional teacher. Your teaching gift was rare cos it came with a lot of humour. Even when you rebuked anyone, it was in a humorous manner that got us laughing, but the message had been passed. Your humor was legendary.

You were also a good man. As my oga, you were a down to earth and relatable boss. You had so much to give my generation but its so so sad your life was cut short. Its still unbelievable that you have passed. Addressing you in past tense is hard. I thank God that you found a better home in Heaven where there is no pain and sorrow. You will be sorely missed here. May your kind soul rest in peace

We met Victor through our good friend Bola on their wedding day. His friendly and good natured self was not lost on us since then till now. It hurts to know that he is no longer here with us, but we know that he is in a much better place with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Our prayers are with you dear Bola, Tobi and Seun; may the Holy Spirit comfort you all during these difficult times. Please accept our heartfelt condolences once again.

The three things that struck me the most about Victor are all centered around the same thing...love. His love for God, his love for his wife and family, and his love for others. Victor had a warm personality and quiet maturity about him. The consummate gentleman, he was very unassuming and always had a ready smile on his face. He was literally a Godsend.

He has passed the test, gone home to rest and has received the victor's crown having loved to the end; but his impact and his legacy will live on forever in the lives of all who knew and loved him.
May his gentle soul rest in peace.

What do we say about Victor Alaofin - a man who came into our lives almost 20 years ago? Pastor Victor immediately struck us as a man on a mission. Calm, God fearing, cerebral, witty, impactful and humble, Victor always entered a room with a smile on face.

Passionate about anything he did, Victor carried out assignments like a man seeking to leave a legacy - and leave a legacy he did leave in business, life and ministry. Osapa - the immediate impact community of our church, will always remember him for the medical outreach that he set up to cater to the health needs of residents of the area.

We also remember with joy the way he delivered his sermons. Often packed with real life experiences, he delivered them with such humor that left the congregation reeling with laughter.

Pastor Victor was also an exceptionally loving husband to Bolatito, and a responsible father to Tobiloba and Oluwaseun. His fatherly nature was also displayed in his relationship with his spiritual children in The Father’s House where he worshipped.

Victor was a man in a million - a wonderful friend, a trustworthy reliable brother and problem solver.

Pastor Victor, we will miss you, but we know that you are in a better place. You have run your race and finished your course. We are certain that a crown of righteousness awaits you in heaven. We console ourselves with that knowledge.

Bolatito, Tobi and Seun, your lover and mentor is no longer with you in the physical, but he remains with you in spirit and his legacy speaks all around you.

Rest In Peace Pastor Victor Oluwatoyin Alaofin till we all meet to part no more.

It's so hard to write this tribute as it's still not real to me that you have left us.

Victor you fought the good fight and kept the faith. You are resting and have joined the cloud of witnesses to cheer us on. We trust God to comfort our hearts and look after your beloved Bolatito and the children. Your legacy lives on and your memory is blessed.

Rest in Peace in the loving arms of our saviour.

Victor has faded away like the stars of the morning. He has lost his light in the glorious sun. He has passed from the earth and its toiling and is only remembered by what he has done. What did he do?

He loved his Tito, Tobi and Seun.
He had a towering intellect.
He had a ready and ever-present smile
He was in step with his maker, and he was wholesome in the sight of all he encountered

May Angels lead him to God the most high

Alaofin as I used to call you! It just fitted your personality like the meaning of the word. You were indeed a king and Giant amongst men! I remembered the last time we were together sharing our visions of owning farms side by side at some place in Epe and raising things in our Old Age, so why did you leave so soon! I still can't believe you are Gone. Victor, you are indeed a friend and brother! Ever smiling and ever amiable. I will miss you lots! I pray the Lord bless, guide and give the ones you left behind fortitude to bear your loss! So here is to meeting you in the arms of our Lord someday! Sleep well Bro till we meet again! 'M.

VOA, as fondly called, you came, you saw and you conquered. You were such a warm personality, both in school and out of school. How our path crossed in Independence Hall and the Faculty of Agric and Forestry in the University of Ibadan was not a mere coincidence but ordained of God. Reconnecting after several years, brought back good memories until the time the Master said it was time for you to come back home. You have fought the good fight of faith until your last breath, no wonder you wrote "My spirit is strong and will not give in, we shall overcome" on the 2nd of April, 2021. For sure, you overcame, hence securing a place in the bossom of the Master.
Sleep on, until the resurrection morning.
Adieu, my wonderful brother!

Victor,

You came into our lives, when you and Bola ‘fell’ for each other and till date still tease her about a walk down Awolowo road. We thank you for your great love and friendship, not only to your wonderful wife, Bolatito and the boys, but also to all her family and friends.

We have been privileged to know you and enjoy your company on many occasions. You are truly a man of many parts and diverse talents.

Writing this is very surreal and leaves us with a lot of thoughts and heavy hearts but we take comfort in the triumph of the power and Spirit of God in all circumstances and that your departure though painful is peaceful.

We thank God for the triumph of your spirit and the faith to trust in God till the end. It is a testimony of the essence of who you are and the values that come from the Almighty God Himself.

The testimony of your life lives on in Bola, Tobi and Seun. They will do you proud and we all that surround them will cheer them on as you will also do from the heavens.

Thank you for the life, the love, the friendship and the fellowship.

You made a difference to many and to us.

Victor and I headed different business units under Naspers and he was a perfect gentleman. His wealth of knowledge was freely shared along with his signature smile.
He readily had something to say on just about every topic. We once joked about a vertical blog and in one hour I saw pure passion as we literally fleshed out the workings, pros and cons. Sadly he moved on to other things and that never materialized.
My heart goes out to the family and friends you left behind.
Knowing you was a delight best experienced personally.
Keep resting in perfect peace Sir Victor

I knew Victor in University of Ibadan and we graduated together in thesame department of Agricultural Economics. He was a genius and a bridge builder among his classmates. Victor created a departmental and Faculty WhatsApp platforms which is our nucleus today. I commiserate with all his family members especially his wife and the children. May God grant him eternal rest.

A great unifier, he truly and really was

VOA, the outpouring of griefs on the platform since the outbreak of the sad news of your demise is in appreciation of the profound impact you had on our academic family.

You built a bridge of friendship across all frontiers, and inspired a platform of togetherness and bonding, believing our humanity and human potential would best be realized under a common family canopy.

VOA, we never thought or hoped you would be with us forever, but we'd always hoped that you would live long enough to have the opportunity to serve our country and humanity in a nobler capacity or role, but sadly this never was.

VOA, we wish you could look back and read the posthumous testimonies about your greatness and selflessness.

Indeed, if Death would accept griefs as a ransom for your Life, we are convinced you would be back in our midst immediately.

Victor, you have gone and exited gloriously, you have gone ahead of us all to the destination we all have in common, the abode of reality that would harmonize and level the perceived mighty and the low among us

Victor Oluwatoyin Alaofin, beyond the natural and emotional outpouring from our grieving hearts, we still all owe you a huge debt of gratitude, now seemingly irredeemable - gratitude for bringing us back and together from different regions of the earth as one indivisible and inseparable family that dwells happily under the common roof of humanity that binds us together.

We remain eternally grateful to you for this singular role of bringing depth, meaning and value to our relationship.

Now that you have taken a bow, gloriously and proudly so, after playing your role distinguishably and commendably too, you have earned for yourself the laurel of immortality by enthroning a family platform that outlives you.

We honestly cannot grieve enough, and neither can we celebrate you deservedly and deservingly too , but we are consoled by the fact that whoever shares flowers of roses will have his hands trailed by fragrance, may the pleasant fragrance of humanity never cease trailing you and your entire household.

Good night our VOA, the pride of everyone of us.

Class '89 of Faculty of Agric & Forestry, University of Ibadan.

Biography

April 28, 2021

Victor Oluwatoyin Alaofin was born with a smile on his face on April 27, 1968 in Ponyan, Kogi State, Nigeria. He studied Agricultural Economics at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, earning a Bachelors in 1989 and a Masters in 1991 from the same institution. He went on to obtain his Ph.D. in Policy Analysis (Economics) from Christian Albrecht's University, Kiel, Germany in 1999.

Victor's mission in life was to live a life that was beautiful in the sight of the Lord God Almighty.

An accomplished strategy consultant with multicultural environments experience in Nigeria, Germany, and France, he played a significant role in the implementation of banking reforms in Nigeria.

As a key player in the creation of the e-payment industry in Nigeria, Victor led the introduction of the online EFT-POS system into Nigeria and was part of the team that built the largest EFT-POS merchant acquisition network for card payments.

He was a multiskilled consultant with experience in business strategy, food manufacturing and management consulting. He worked in various establishments prior to establishing Emerald Consulting and Knowledge Fabrik. Victor provided advisory services to a few State Governments in Nigeria.

Victor loved God and was a man of faith who believed in the infallibleness of God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. He was an associate pastor of Rehoboth International Christian Centre (The Father’s House), Osapa, Lagos. He was responsible for the establishment of the medical outreach in the Osapa area. This outreach began from Victor's passion that every individual no matter their status in life, deserved access to adequate health care. Every month, this outreach catered for individuals who were otherwise unable to access the required health care and/or pay for health care.

He passed on to glory on Wednesday 21st, April 2021 and is survived by his wife, Bolatito, their two sons, Oluwatobiloba and Oluwaseun, siblings, cousins, aunties and uncles.

Victor will be greatly missed for his awesome personality, his high intellect, sense of humour, warmth and display of excellence in every aspect of life.

A Fine Gentleman

May 4, 2021
Dr Victor Alaofin was an exceptional person in many respects. He was inquisitive, resourceful, deep and kind.
I remember a certain occassion, back in our Accenture days, when, on a cold Monday morning, Victor had declared, rather casually,  to have spotted me cruising by on Third Mainland Bridge the previous day. Curiously, I had asked how he had known, with such certainty, that it was me, given that it wasn't only I who drove the certain brand and colour of car which he had proclaimed as the primary basis for his conviction.  Then he had spontaneously recited my Vehicle Registration Number and then, again, rather casually, gone on to explain that he had memorised the Vehicle Registration Numbers of virtually everybody in the Firm! This claim was, of course, tested and found to hold true. While all employees of Accenture were essentially geniuses in their own rights back in those days, Victor was special. This incidence, was, indeed, just one example of his inherent curiosity, his effortless interest in people and his raw, natural capacity.
Victor will be dearly missed. However, we find solace in the knowledge that he lived an exemplary life and, especially, in the privilege of meeting him along the way.
May The Almight God Grant him Eternal Rest, may He Comfort his loved ones and may his legacy be preserved. Amen.
Rest In Peace, Victor.
