BIOGRAPHY OF THE LATE C/INSP. (RTD) VICTORIA AFUA TAKYIWA OBENG.

Madam Victoria Takyiwa Obeng, whose mortal remains lie before us was born on Friday August 6, 1943 at Obodan to Mr. Thomas Asiamah Obeng a merchant of Apem Brongmu, Aburi and Madam Ellen Offeibea Asiamah Obeng of the Afi Dagya Asona family of Ahwerase Akuapem, both of blessed memory. She was the 9th born out of ten children; five males and five females. Aunty Takyiwa was baptized into the Presbyterian Church on the 26th of December, 1943 and was confirmed on 26th December, 1958.

Auntie Takyiwa began her basic education at Ahwerase, Akuapem in the Eastern region. She continued her education at the Presbyterian Middle School at Obosomase, Akuapem.

Upon completing her middle school Education, she got married to a police officer, by name DSP Kwame Boateng who took her to Bimbila in the Northern Region. At Bimbila, Auntie Takyiwa gained employment as a pupil teacher in a basic school where she worked for about two years. Her marriage faced many challenges and was eventually dissolved. She then returned to Accra to work at the Ghana Lotteries for about a year as a lottery agent.

Later on she developed a deep interest in the Police Service and therefore got enlisted into the Police Academy in Accra. The year after completing her training, she was posted to Tamale where she worked for three years and was later transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) office of the Ghana Police Service in Accra.

Whilst in Accra, she worked with the Interpol Division of the Ghana Police Service. By dint of hard work and dedication, Auntie Takyiwa rose to the rank of Chief Inspector. She was transferred to Kumasi where she worked for some time. 

She was later transferred to Tema Regional Office. After five years in Tema, she was transferred to Koforidua where she worked until her retirement. She retired from the Police Service in 2004 when she attained the compulsory retirement age of 60 years. She came to live in her home town, Ahwerase Akuapim where she lived until her demise.

Being a very sociable person, she joined the Akuapem Ma Fekuw where she was made the Chairperson. She brought many Akuapem citizens together to form a warm fellowship where they lent support to each other to make them feel at home in Kumasi.Auntie Takyiwa was blessed with three beautiful daughters: Akua Offeibea, Afua Vic and Mama Offeibea. Besides these beautiful girls, she adopted most of the children of her siblings who loved to spend their holidays with her. Her generosity and kindness made her a mother of many young people in the family. Auntie was a very cheerful person who never hesitated to show kindness to everyone. She always welcomed everybody into her home with open arms, including strangers. She had a beautiful heart and did not love only her children but others not related to her in any way.

Her warmness encouraged most of her nephews and nieces to stay with her. Those who didn’t stay with her were never far off and made it a point to pay her a visit whenever they could. All who came to visit her found comfort. She was very generous and loved all.

Auntie Takyiwa truly loved the Lord. She invested the remaining period of her life to serve the LORD. She took active part in the Church’s programmes, and remained a committed member of good standing throughout her adult life. She was made a presbyter at the Ahwerase Presbyterian Church and a member of the Bible Study and Prayer Group and Women Fellowship. She was regular at church until health challenges impeded her movement.

Just like it is in the lives of all mortals, Auntie Takyiwah breathed her last while being transported to the Medicas Medical Center at Mampong Akuapim for treatment. Auntie Takyiwa, went to be with her maker on the 7th day of February, 2021 at the age of 78.

The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away. Praise the name of the Lord (Job 1:2b)
