TRIBUTE FROM THE ONLY CHILD

You mothered many but you were a true representation of motherliness to me.

You loved many and still expressed your very warmth and presence to me Sister as I affectionately called you, served two roles perfectly.

Being a mother, you were my defense, provider, guide, but you respected the fact that you only represented the Heavenly King who entrusted me to you.

I could not have wished for any other but you Mum.

You walked the talk by reminding me always of the benefits of giving.

You were selfless and always grateful to all.

You considered the wisdom of giving every person the opportunity to prove himself.

You provided lemons instead of lemonades

By your examples, I learned to trust but not to depend.

Being a mother, when I was unreasonable, you reasoned with me. You pampered me and wiped my tears.

Nursed me on my sick bed till I recovered.

Your greatest joy was to hear my laughter.

Even when I was hard on myself, you gave your usual smile and pointed out to me what would work best.

You were a role model that watched every step I took

You were the bridge that connected relations and friends.

You were the warrior that faced obstacles squarely, not considering how life threatening it was.

You were soft spoken, a woman of few words but you were a woman of your words. You taught me that silence is golden,

and I will walk with that all my life.

You taught me to pay forward every good deed.

Others drained from you like a leech but you still gave and sacrificed even the little you had. Something some have never dared to do.

You taught me patience and taught me to “avoid loud and aggressive people”, like you always quoted, for “they are vexations to the spirit”.

You laughed over my silence - a strategy I always used to outwit you when I needed a favor.

You gave your "best" look when I put up my "worst"

Your best strategy when I was mediocre or frowned when given tasks was resorting to Proverbs, words of life and wisdom that got me thinking and left me feeling sorry.

In your last moments you clung on to your Savior like I never saw you do

Above all, you were a friend, a sister, and the best of all Mums.

For all these and more, I can only thank our heavenly Father for a life with you.

I will so shine and make you proud.

I will forever hold on to memories with you.

None can replace you but the Lord and father of the motherless.

On the 9th February 2021, you called me to send you to review at Ho Teaching Hospital, On our way you told me so many things, some which I ignored but I never returned with you again. At 11:15pm you ask I hold your hand which I did and you said “ KK, Avuvor wo w) g3” to wit “KK youwill be feeling cold” and repeated it three times and Ask I remain strong and resolute. Anything I ask after that you only nodded or shook your head. By 12 midnight Mum broke my heart and left me to eternity.

God saw you getting tired,

And a cure was not to be,

So, He whispered “come to me”

With tearful eyes I watched you suffer and saw you fade away.

Although I loved you dearly, Mum,

I could not make you stay

A golden heart stopped beating,

And hardworking hands to rest.

Rest in Perfect Peace Sister

AUTO BIOGRAPHY

If we had the choice of when and how to introduce Victoria to you, we would have wished for it to have been under different circumstances; preferably in a context where you could have made your own judgments of what a special person and how generous she was. What a simple but fulfilling life she led as well as her remarkable leadership successes in this and wider communities. Yet, the difficult setting of a post-mortem auto biography is one in which we find ourselves to present to you, Mad. Victoria Awusi Hlovor.

THE BEGINNING AND THE RISING OF THE SUN

I was born and named as Victoria Awusi Hlovor on the 1st March, 1959 to Mr. Willie Kumeka and Madam Afashie Akua Nyatsikor later known as Mad. Mary Hlovor. Seven month after bringing forth by my mother, I was taken by my grandmother, Veronica Hlovor (Dze Yesu Yome) who took very good care of me and loves me so much.

My grandmother sent me to school at a very tender age.. I was sent to Anglican Primary School at Ahoe then to Agbasife or Ho Dome Primary school later to R.C. Girls middle school at Housing estate.

In 1972, I sat for common entrance examination and passed with bursary to OLA Secondary School, Ho. I then left OLA in 1975 to Peki Secondary School and completed in 1977.

In the same year, I completed my secondary school, I then furthered to Takoradi Polytechnic to pursue DBS Secretaryship which I completed in 1979.

After school, I met one man called Ken Arku whom I later got married to and years on we got divorced. That marriage was survived by my only child Kenneth Innocent Arku.

WORKING LIFE

I started by selling egg and things were really difficult at the time because I was by then pregnant with my child. I then made my younger sister Esi to come and stay with me to school so as to help me in my daily chores. We then decided to collect cloth from people on credit and sell to get our daily bread as I could not count on selling only the egg.

I was in the market one day when a certain woman called “Kloteynor” came and asked me if I am not Dze Yesu Yome’s daughter, I answered in the affirmative and she asked if can sell cloth. At the time there was scarcity of cloth and they smuggle it from Lomé. I was interested so she promised to bring me a good stock which she later delivered to me. I started Selling cloth with my little son on my back with the help of my sister Esi, I go to Mafi –Kumasi, Kpetoe, Kpeve, Kpedze, Kpando and throughout the week I travel to sell, sometimes coming back late in the night before attending to my son.

Unfortunately J.J. Rawlings did the second coup-de ’tat on the 31st December, 1981 and we were all asked to sell the cloth on control price so I have to sell on credit to people who even refused to pay the money because we learnt there would be House to House cleaning and if you a seen with just one full piece, there will be trouble for you. That was where I stopped selling cloth.

In 1983 , I met one Lizzy from Hohoe who introduced me to buying and selling of foods stuff from Northern Volta. With just ₵14,000.00 I had at the time, I took on the challenge and things went well. Later I met a transport officer of Food Distribution who introduced me to the manager and I was contracted to be an agent and be supplying food to the corporation. In 1986, have to stop for circumstances beyond me.

In 1987, I decided to enter into the Nigeria business, things went well from the beginning but the unfortunate happened. My goods were arrested by the Militia at Tanyigbe through a driver who deceived me and collected money and dumped the goods for it to be arrested and it was worth ₵3,million.

During the cause of my Food Distribution works, I established a store which was very stocked so I was still having some money after the arrest.

In 1990, I decided to form a company using my name and that of my only child. I then used our initials as V-Victoria, A-Awusi, N- And, A-Arku, K-Kenneth, K-Korku (VANAKK). From then, I started sourcing for food supplies contracts from government agencies and departments. I have been very successful in this venture by supplying to Nsawam Prisons, Ho Prisons and other Prisons across the country. I also had contracts with the UN to supply food items to various refugees’ camps in Africa. The Military was not left out as I cooked Kenkey and supplied them with various food items. Hardwork is my hobby and I’m happy to have come this far.

My love for family made me took my siblings in and looked after them in school even though it is sometimes very difficult to afford three square meals a day. I always want to foster family unity and to keep all happy.

My love for the catholic church and the religious havepushed me to always be on hand to help in any form so as to build the church and keep its legacy for generations

POLITICAL LIFE

My political life started in 1990, when the ban on political activities were lifted. I then with the help of some few members built a strong base for the DPP in the Volta Region and vividly recall my meetings with the leadership of the NDC when the DPP merged with the NDC

Fast forward I became the president of Mahama Ladies in the region and we worked so hard but lost the 2016 elections.

THE END AND SETTING OF THE SUN

Vic had been sick from January, 2021 but was still going about her normal duties. She’s been in and out of admission but was still strong and was able to organize the funeral of the mother and her burial in Tsiame on the 31st January, 2021. Little did we know what was in stock exactly ten days later.

On that faithful day, she called the son to pick her to the Ho Teaching Hospital for a review but at exactly 12 midnight on 10th February, 2021 she passed on to glory.

Her good life will be defined by the legacy she has left behind. Her vision and investment in education, her insistence on upholding good morals as well as her talent for commerce have paid off handsomely.

She left behind the only son K.K, numerous families and friends to mourn her.

Hede nyuie.

TRIBUTE IN MEMORY OF MAD VICTORIA HLOVOR by GLOBAFEST GROUP OF COMPANIES (GLOBAL FM & VOLTA ONE TV)
"I am coming soon. Keep safe what you have, so that no one will rob you of your victory prize"
Revelations. 3:11
In 2016, a new radio station was born at Ho, the Volta Regjonal capital. One of the aims of the  station was to use its platform to promote peace before, during and after the 2016 General elections. In November, we organised a peace walk and ended with a musical concert at the Jubilee Park. This was when we came into contact with the company VANAKK because we needed to hire some chairs and canopies.
That same year during the Christmas festivities, we needed some items to share among the staff. We were directed to Mad Victoria Hlovor, the wonderful woman who also  operated the VANAKK hiring services.
With these initial encounters, a bond of friendship developed between Globafest Group of Companies and Aunty Vic.  On many occasions, she sponsored our outdoor programs.
In Dec 2019, Aunty Vic was invited to present Certificates to the winners of Volta One TV Borborbor festival at the Woezor hotel.  She happily accepted and spent the night with us.
Again in August 2020, on the occasion of the 4th anniversary of Global fm, she happily joined us.
Later in the year she informed our Boss Mrs Dzifa Attivor that she had lost her mum in Kumasi and invited us to accompany her.
On 10th February 2021, rumors started going round of the sudden demise of our lovely, joyous, affable, down to earth friend. A few calls were made and this was confirmed. We are still in a state of shock and confusion at the death of Aunty Vic.
Death is eminent and no one can change the plans of God. Our consolation is that she is resting with her Maker. We extend our condolence to the family most especially her son KK. May her soul rest in Peace.
Till we meet again, fare thee well.

TRIBUTE BY BROTHERS AND SISTERS

“The righteous people die, and no one understands or even cares. But when they die, no calamity can hurt them. Those who live good lives find peace and rest in death” Isaiah 57:1-2

It feels like years but it has only been months,
And yet that is still too long. We still love you the same as if you were still here with us, laughing during the good times and crying during the bad times. We miss being able to call you any time and spend hours talking about everything under the sun. As siblings we were practically joined at the hip, but we grew up and grew apart, as most siblings do.
We had our own set of friends and our own set of goals for our lives, but that still didn't change the fact that we were brothers and sisters.
There was nothing that we wouldn't do for you and nothing that you wouldn't do for us.
We always wish you were still here with us, but God knows best

Our big Sister Victoria Awusi Hlovor, popularly known as “sister” this name came to stay because of the love you have for your siblings who came to stay with you and you took care of us.

Sister was someone who loves from the heart, no matter how much you argue you cannot be drawn apart. She was a joy that cannot be taken away, once she enters your life, she was there to stay. A mother and a friend who helps you through difficult times, her comforting words are worth much more than dimes. A partner who fills your life with laughs and smile,
These memories last for miles and miles.

When she is by your side, the world is filled with life, when she is not around, your days are full of strife. Our sister was a blessing, who fills your heart with love,

She flies with us in life with the beauty of a dove. A companion to whom we can express our feelings, she doesn’t let us get bored at family dealings.
Whether we are having our ups or downs, She always helps us with a smile and never frowns.

With a sister we cannot have a grudge, she was as sweet as chocolate and as smooth as fudge.
Having a sister was not just a trend, we are still not sure what to say.  However, whether it is the will of God or not that she should leave us this early and in this manner.  He (God) alone knows what He does and we trust Him in faith.  Sister Victoria Awusi Hlover, which ever journey you are on, we as family can only wish you the best as always and a safe journey.  Our love for you cannot be compared with that of God for you because, He is the beginning and the end.  Rest peacefully from all your hard works.

Sister Victoria Awusi Hlovor, He de nyuie!  He de nyuie!!  He de nyuie!!!

SHOP OWNERS ASSOCIATION TO THE LATE MADAM VICTORIA HLOVOR (popularly known as VANAKK)
“Lord teach us how to count our days, so that we may acquire a heart of wisdom”. – Ps. 90:12
The late Madam Victoria Hlovor was a founding member of the Ho Central Market Shop Owners Association.  Her strong desire to seek justice for the then shop owners whose shops were demolished earned her the Vice Presidency of the Association, a position she held till her death.
“VANAKK” as she was known and called by almost all is a fearless and outspoken leader who is cherished by all.  She led several delegations to the Ho Municipal Assembly and the Asogli Traditional Council during the shop allocation impasse.  She was very instrumental in the Association’s court matters.
“VANAKK” was a dynamic leader, a mentor and above all a good organizer who always make sure we attended ceremonies that matters.
It was heart breaking to wake up to death of our dear VANAKK on after a short illness.
Her death has created a vacuum which will be difficult to fill.
We take consolation from the words of our Saviour, who says in John 5:28, 29 that “Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out …...”.
So in this hard time of grief and sorrow, we say THANK YOU LORD!
VANAKK, REST IN THE RESURRECTION HOPE TILL WE MEET AGAIN!!!
