His Life
February 14, 2021
I came to know Bro Vincent when I started to serve in Penang First Assembly of GOD, in the WACA (Worship & Creative Arts) ministry. Although we had our "Hi and Bye"s during the regular services, it was not until we served together in preparation for Christmas Presentations that I had the privilege of working closely with him and his talented family members. Bro Vincent striked me as the man who has it all, a great personality with great talents, with an equally talented and beautiful wife (Sis Wendy Yeoh), a gorgeous daughter (Clarisse Kam) and a tall and handsome son (Ryan Kam). This family truly depicts what I envision of a perfect family-in-CHRIST.
Truth be told, preparing for Christmas' presentation is no easy feat. You meet with people with different backgrounds, different expectations and different capabilities. Constantly sandwiched between giving the best to GOD and balancing the abilities and expectations of church members, one would have wanted to throw in the towel (which I have thought of many times). But it is with the encouragement and selfless attitude of some members, one like Bro Vincent, which spurred me on, and brought me joy in serving. As I'm writing this, my mind and heart are toiled with many emotions, feeling the pain of loss, and yet recollecting the many memories of serving alongside him, which made me look back with such fondness of the times we spent together with the family of CHRIST. I have truly been blessed by this man's presence in my life, and also his wife, Sis Wendy. They are such a loving and godly couple, who brings hope to all those out there who want to have a family of their own, deeply rooted in Christ, and manifesting the love of Christ in human form.
Something that stood out about him: true humility. Being a talented musician and singer himself, and a senior to many of us, he has never looked down on me or the younger ones, ever willing to follow directions and instructions, and even accommodating requests from an amateur, inexperienced me. During moments of tension and frustration during practices, he would just know how to rescue the moment with his humorous jokes and antics. Even when I wanted to give up after numerous attempts, Bro Vincent will never give up. He will keep on spurring the rest of the brothers to go on, he just has a way to make people go on! Humour, talent, humility; all packaged in one person: Vincent Kam!
Wait, did I mention that he is a great actor too? Bro Vincent is an experienced actor on stage, well known for his recent role as Aaron alongside Moses, in the last 2 Christmas Dramas. Again, he is a delight to work with on stage. Ever humble to follow directions, he chipped in with valuable advice from his experiences, and is real serious when it comes to GOD's business. Off the stage and behind the scene (many might not have known), he has put in a lot of effort together with Sis Wendy to help in props; yes, those big and small props which you see on stage during the Christmas Drama! It is no easy task for the Props Team (kudos to them, just to side track a little).
Bro Vincent will always remain in my heart and memories, as the man who has greatly influenced me with his life, a living sacrifice for JESUS. Till we meet again in heaven.
