Violet Blackwell Coats, 81, a longtime resident of Granville County passed away at her home on Thursday, April 26, 2012.

A native of Granville County, the daughter of the late Robert Sam Blackwell, the widow of Amos Pou Coats, a member of Mt. Creek Baptist Church and a librarian at Richard Thornton Library for 43 years. 

Funeral Services will be conducted 2:00 PM, Sunday, April 29, 2012 at Mt. Creek Baptist Church by Rev. Johnny Richards.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Surviving are a daughter, Jayne Coats of Carrboro, her mother, Sadie Blackwell, a sister, Rose Wilson, both of Oxford.

Visitation will be held from 7:00 – 8:30 PM, Saturday, April 28, 2012 at the Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford.

Violet was a long time friend of my mom ,Martha Crowell Hight. She helped us many a time at the library when I was a child. She was alwayss very kind and patient with us when I was looking for a good book. I will always remember her. I hope she and my mom are once again enjoying a good visit.i

Mrs. Coats was a fine lady and a good Christian example as she assisted folks at the Library she always had a smile and a kind word for everyone . I considered her a friend and a prayer warrior as I recovered from Breast Cancer surgery. Mrs. Coats is shining in Heaven as she shined on earth, may God be with you all during this sad time.
