The Life of Virgie Joyce Polowchak

July 4, 2015

Virgie J. Polowchak, was a Christian for 60 years in the Lord's Church. She lived for 17 years in the Portland, OR area, where she became a Christian. She attended the Duke Street Church of Christ. Later she moved to Loveland, CO for about 2 years, then moved to Anchorage, AK, where she met and married Van M. Polowchak Sr. in 1970. They worked with the church there together for about 2 years.

The Polowchaks moved to Gering, NE in 1972, in order for Van to attend the Bible College under the leadership of Don Pinon, Archie Word, and Gary Flom. They had a baby boy, Van M. Polowchak, Jr. in 1973. During Bible College Van and Virgie ministered at North Platte Church of Christ in Nebraska, and Wray Church of Christ in Wray, Colorado. Then they worked together in ministry in Ft. Morgan, CO, from 1973-1983. Van Sr. graduated from Bible College in 1976 with a Bachelor of Sacred Literature. The Polowchaks moved to Longmont, Colorado and placed fellowship at the Longmont Church of Christ in 1983, assisting the minister there, Jim H. Parks. Virgie was a great spiritual wife and constant support to Van and the Church.

In 1996, Van and his beloved wife, Virgie, moved to Glendale, OR, where he ministered at the Church in Glendale for approximately 15 years. The Polowchaks finally moved to Salem, OR to live with Virgie's sister, Eileen Parks, and brother-in-Law, Jim H. Parks. They have faithfully supported the Church there for 4 years together, until Virgie passed away, June 30th, 2015. Van Sr. continues to labor with the church in Salem. Virgie was always very close to her "dual sister", in Christ and in life, Eileen L. Parks!

Virgie loved people!! She always had a smile on her face and always opened her house to the Christians, including Bible College students during holidays, and showed hospitality to many Saints. Her heart was to serve others, and she did so constantly. She was never more happy than when she could make you a meal, a quilt, a pillowcase, send a letter, or make a phone call to see how you were doing.

She always desired to share the Gospel with anyone that she had an opportunity to do so. She was devoted to Jesus, and her principle goal in life, above all others, was to serve her Lord and please Him, and to do everything in her power to help others know Him, as well.

She did a lot of crocheting and quilting, liberally giving away many of her fine works to family and Christian friends. She always enjoyed decorating the house with vibrant colors and "pretties" (Her word). She was a natural-born interior decorator. She kept everything that anybody gave her, and she found a way to display it and make it look perfect. She was very fond of purple, blue, and bright colors. For all of her 60 years as a Christian, she played the piano for the churches. She also enjoyed teaching classes.

Virgie is survived by her loving husband, Van M. Polowchak, Sr., and her children, Sherran Buehler, Howard Wittner, Joyce Enfield, Robert Wittner, and Van M. Polowchak, Jr., as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and other extended family members.

Van M. Polowchak is still residing with the Parks at 3379 Livingston St. NE, Salem, OR 97301.
