I just learned of Mrs. Brohard's passing today.  She will always be Mrs. Brohard to me, because I knew her as my first best friend's (Joanna) mom.

The Brohards left my life in Worthington, Ohio when I was 10 years old.  I was devestated, because they were an extension of my family, and I didn't understand why they left us.

Mrs. Brohard treated my sister (Donna) and I as she did Tommy, Joanna, and Dianna.  She was our other mother.  She welcomed us into her home, gave us lunches with her own children during Summer days, and allowed our family to watch the Wizard of Oz on the neighborhood's first color TV!  She tolerated all of us sitting in the front yard crabapple tree throwing crabapples at passing cars (she didn't condone it, but we thought we were slick in hiding it from her).  She encouraged us as we worked on our abilities in walking on our hands down the front yard.  She was mom.

Years later, after Donna and her husband moved to California, I flew out for a visit.  Donna & I found a phone number for the Brohards, and Mrs. Brohard, without hesitation, welcomed us to her home for an afternoon of catching up.  We had dinner with Mrs. Brohard and Tommy that evening for continued catch up time.  A day I will always treasure.

That was the last time our paths crossed.  We later learned of Tommy's passing, and now, today, I learned of Mrs. Brohard having passed.

We lost our mom 20 years ago, so I know of the emptiness Mrs. Brohard's family is feeling.  My heartfelt condolences, and my sincere love goes out to you all.  Cherish your memories, and know that she lives on in each of you.
